5-MINUTE HOME-CHECK CHECKLIST 🏠:

Take 5 minutes to check these things around your home before summer slips by –

◾️ Check your breaker panel for warm spots or frequent trips – a sign it's maxed out, not just being cranky.

◾️Read your water meter with everything off; the leak indicator shouldn't move!

◾️Walk around your home’s foundation + check for new hairline cracks while the soil is dry + they're easy to spot.

◾️Inspect your attic – look for daylight or heat buildup. These are signs of roof +/or ventilation issues (often from summer storms).

If a repair or renovation is on your list, this is the week to call! Fall bookings fill up fast.

Get on our schedule – (731)427-1120.

August is here, folks – in case the 100* temps haven’t given that away yet!

That means summer is almost over + fall is just around the corner. With cooler temps on the horizon + the busyness of holiday season approaching, now is a great time to do a quick check on some things around your home.

Here’s common issues that Jackson homeowners often spot in August (+ the “why”):

Overloaded electrical panels.
Window units + normal summer load push older 60–100 amp panels (common in Jackson's pre-1980s housing stock) past their limit. This is prime "why does my breaker keep tripping" season, and it's a real fire-risk warning sign, not just an inconvenience.

Hidden water leaks.
Leaks are easiest to catch right now: water usage is already elevated in August (lawn watering, kids home from school, more showers/laundry), so a hidden leak hides in a bill that "should" be high anyway. Because of this, late summer is actually the best window to catch a leak – because you can compare this month's bill to last August's (not just to a low-usage spring month).

Cracks in home foundations.
Tennessee clay soil shrinks with the heat + dryness of August. Foundations that were fine in spring can develop hairline cracks as the soil pulls away from the slab in late-summer drought. So, it may be worth taking a look before fall rains return and the cycle reverses.

Storm damage to roofs / home.
If you haven’t noticed, it’s storm season here in Jackson. May - August is peak thunderstorm/hail season in West TN. Because of this, late August is the natural window to inspect for damage before it becomes a leak (that you’ll unfortunately notice when fall rains return).
So, give your home a quick look-over!

If you spot something that needs repair, we’re here to help. If you’ve been looking to renovate (or, these issues are sparking the need), now is the time to start! Fall (Sept-Nov) is the busiest renovation season regionally as people want projects wrapped up before the holidays.
Booking in August beats the rush and the fall backlog. Give us a call at (731)427-1120.
