On this , the question engineers ask about compressed air piping is not whether the pipe will corrode. It is whether the pipe can even be used for compressed air in the first place. Most thermoplastics cannot.

Asahi/America Inc.'s Air-Pro® is the only specially formulated polyethylene (PE100) piping system tested and approved for compressed air service under the California OSHA Unfired Pressure Vessel Safety Order. The PE100 resin is compounded with proprietary antioxidants and stabilizers to manage the oxidative effects of compressed air, which standard PE cannot withstand over the long term. General-grade PE piping used in this application requires severe pressure derating and carries a limited service life.

Air-Pro® handles what metal cannot in corrosive environments. The material resists pH levels from 1 to 14, eliminates internal corrosion caused by moisture, and withstands external chemical attack from marine salt air, industrial atmospheres, and direct chemical exposure. It resists all common compressor lubricants, including mineral oils, polyalphaolefins (PAOs), polyol esters (POEs), and diesters. The system is UV stabilized for aboveground use and approved for direct burial, including horizontal directional drilling.

Available 1/2” to 4” (SDR 7.4, 230psi at 68°F) and 6” to 12” (SDR 11, 150psi at 68°F). Joined by socket fusion, butt fusion, or electrofusion. Designed for a minimum 50-year service life and backed by a 10-year warranty.

For this and , Asahi/America Inc. Custom Fabrication, then and now. The 2001 photo was taken at our previous location in Malden, Massachusetts. Today, custom fabrication runs out of a 24,000-square-foot shop inside our 200,000-square-foot headquarters in Lawrence, Massachusetts, with a second 60,000-square-foot facility in Paulina, Louisiana. Different walls and different scales, but the same answer: standard catalog parts will not do the job.
