Smarter IAQ strategy. Smaller HVAC footprint. Stronger project ROI.

In a large conference hotel project in the Southeast U.S., high-occupancy spaces like ballrooms, meeting rooms, dining areas, and lobbies created a major ventilation challenge: a traditional Ventilation Rate Procedure design required over 43,000 CFM of outdoor air for common areas alone.

By applying the Indoor Air Quality Procedure — IAQP — with GPS Air smartIAQ® systems, the design team was able to reduce outdoor air requirements to approximately 19,000 CFM, nearly a 50% reduction, while maintaining a standards-aligned indoor air quality strategy.

The result? Downsized DOAS units, the elimination of most ERVs, reduced mechanical coordination challenges, an estimated $710,000 in equipment savings, and approximately $25,000 in annual energy savings.

For hotels, conference centers, and high-occupancy commercial buildings, this case study shows how IAQP can help solve space, budget, and energy challenges without compromising indoor air quality.

Where Airflow Measurement Matters: Demand Control Ventilation (DCV)

Demand Control Ventilation (DCV) strategies are designed to reduce energy usage by adjusting outdoor airflow based on occupancy levels — but effective DCV depends on more than monitoring CO2 alone.

Every space has unique ventilation rates and associated CO2 levels. ASHRAE 62.1 requires systems to provide the required ventilation rate for the actual occupancy, avoiding excessive outdoor air that increases energy consumption.

What EBTRON does differently is provide direct airflow measurement that helps verify and maintain ventilation performance under real-world operating conditions.

Without airflow measurement, relying solely on CO2 levels to control outdoor air dampers could result in an uncertain amount of air being brought in.
