G{Code} House

What is G|Code?

G|Code is a Boston nonprofit founded by Bridgette Wallace. It helps young women and non-binary people of color, ages 18 to 25, build careers in tech. Its home is a 5,000-square-foot Victorian in Roxbury’s Garrison-Trotter neighborhood, being turned into a place where participants can live, work and learn to code together.

Bridgette’s idea is simple and powerful: “When you teach a young woman to code, there is nothing she can’t do. When you give that young woman a home, there’s no one she can’t be.”
The project tackles three Boston challenges in one house: the gender gap in tech, rising housing costs, and keeping opportunity rooted in the neighborhoods that built this city. Bridgette calls it a modern take on Boston’s settlement-house tradition.

We were proud to help bring this historic home back to life. Architecture at its best doesn’t just shelter people. It gives them a foundation to build their futures on.

East Meets West | Cambridge, MA

A rooftop shower in Cambridge, used in every season.

This family wanted their primary suite to feel like a daily retreat. We designed and built an open-air shower on their private roof deck, a short step from the bedroom, made for year-round use.
The design comes from the materials. Custom maple slat walls run from the deck into the bath, giving privacy and a calm, minimal rhythm.

The dark wood is Shou Sugi Ban, a Japanese technique that chars timber to bring out its grain and help it hold up to the weather. It wraps the shower wall, the planter, and the vanity wall inside.

The palette:

Reclaimed oak doors, handcrafted by NEDC
Maple slats with a clear finish
Original oak floors, carefully restored
Ipê decking with cedar railings
Shou Sugi Ban throughout
An herb garden on the deck finishes the space, giving the family something growing within reach of the shower.

Designed and built by one accountable team, from the first sketch to the final install.

Lifting Spirits With Spaces Since 2005!

Few materials belong to New England the way cedar shingles do.

Settlers split them by hand in the 1600s. Two centuries later, architects like H.H. Richardson wrapped entire houses in them and gave rise to the Shingle Style. Some of its finest examples still stand here in greater Boston.

Cedar endures because it suits this place. It naturally resists rot and insects, moves less than most woods through freeze and thaw, and holds up to coastal air. Over time it weathers to a soft silver gray that only grows richer. It wraps porches and curves with ease, and a damaged shingle can be replaced on its own.

Cedar performs only as well as it’s detailed. Its lifespan depends on a backing that lets the wall breathe and dry, the right fasteners, the right grade, and a finish chosen for each elevation.

The best homes start with one clear idea, carried all the way through. This lovely client couple desired a lovely kitchen inspired by their travels in throughout Europe, specifically France and Italy. We recently completed the project and had this lovely chat with them.

When the people who design your home are the same people who build it, the vision doesn’t get lost in translation. Proportion, light, flow, and detail stay intact from the first sketch to the final walkthrough.

What that means for our clients:

One accountable team. No finger-pointing between architect and builder. If something comes up, we own it.

Design and budget in the same conversation. Pricing informs design from day one, so the plan you fall in love with is the plan you can build.

Fewer surprises. Our historical change-order rate is under 3%.

Clear communication. Weekly meetings during construction keep you informed and in the know.

Long-term confidence. Every project is backed by a five-year warranty.

The result is a home that changes how you live, and a process that feels as considered as the space itself.
