Day two- A lot of people don’t realize deck restoration starts long before stain ever touches the wood. On this project we used the Sherwin Williams SuperDeck Stain & Sealer Remover followed by the SuperDeck Revive system and both products are meant to work together for the proper restoration process.
The stain remover breaks down old failing stain, dirt, UV damage, and buildup deep in the wood fibers. But after stripping, the wood is left at a high pH level and if you stop there you’re setting yourself up for poor stain performance and uneven results. That’s where Revive comes in. Revive neutralizes and deactivates the stain remover while brightening the wood back up and restoring the proper pH balance so the new stain can bond correctly.
Skipping this step is one of the biggest mistakes people make during deck restoration. Proper prep is everything if you want professional results and long term performance. Sanding, repairs, prep work, and patience always separate a real restoration from a quick DIY flip.
This is only part 2 of the series and we’re just getting started. A lot more detail, restoration work, and transformation still to come on this deck revival.
