Timber frame structures live outside in every season, so the joinery has to be rock solid. A post that's not plumb will throw off every connection above it. Beams that aren't seated right will settle and crack.

We cut mortise and tenon joints based on actual material dimensions, not what the plans say. Wood moves, specs don't always account for that.

Getting the pitch right on a roof like this also determines how water runs off. Too shallow and you're asking for pooling. If you're planning something like this, give us a call at 304-832-3409.
