Standing back and looking at this finished project, it’s hard to put into words how proud I am of our crew.
This is the biggest retaining wall we’ve ever built at HHR—100 feet long and 10 feet high, with a 22×60 ashlar slate stamped patio above it. Out front, a curved slate stamped sidewalk with charcoal borders adds the finishing touch.
Those measurements tell you the size of the job, but they don’t tell you what went into it. Every course of block and every detail in that concrete represents someone’s hard work. It represents days when we were tired and still had to give the work the attention it deserved.
As a business owner, taking on something bigger than you’ve ever done carries a weight. You’ve made a promise to a customer, and you have a crew counting on you to lead them through it. Seeing that promise become a finished project is a feeling I’ll never take for granted.
Without great risk, there will never be great reward.
The reward here is being able to stand beside the men who built this and say, “We did that.” It’s watching our crew grow, seeing their pride in the finished work, and knowing how far we’ve come together.
To my crew: thank you. Your effort, skill, and willingness to take on a challenge are what make projects like this possible. I’m proud of this job, but I’m even prouder of the people behind it.

I want to take a minute to give some well-deserved appreciation to a man who has earned every bit of it. And introduce our foreman Brandon Weader AKA the grease man.... AKA Dial up
When he started at HHR, he knew very little about pouring concrete or waterproofing basements. Today, he’s running his own crew and has become one of the top foremen I’ve ever had. I’ve watched him learn, struggle, figure things out, and grow into someone I can trust to lead.
His attention to detail is unmatched. But what really makes me respect him is how he handles mistakes. He owns them, learns from them, and comes back better. That willingness to keep growing is a big part of why he’s where he is today.
Around here, we call him “Dial-Up” because he thinks everything through—sometimes we’re halfway through the next job before his brain finishes loading. 😂 But all jokes aside, that’s because he cares about getting it right. His other nickname is “The Grease Man,” because he keeps things running smooth, and anyone who runs a business knows how much that means.
Brother, your effort doesn’t go unnoticed. Every detail you catch, every problem you work through, and every day you step up takes weight off my shoulders. You’ve helped build this company into something I’m proud of, and I hope you take pride in that too.
Thank you for giving a damn. Thank you for growing with HHR and becoming a man the crew and I can count on. I’m proud to have you leading a crew, and even prouder to call you a brother. 💪

Four straight days of pouring concrete. Sore backs, tired hands, and a crew that keeps showing up and giving it everything they’ve got.
Today was Scotty’s birthday, and he spent it right beside us, busting his butt on a 10-yard stamped patio and a 30-foot stamped sidewalk. He could’ve taken the day off and enjoyed himself. Instead, he chose to spend it in the mud with his crew, seeing the job through.
That kind of heart can’t be taught, and it sure as hell can’t be taken for granted.
Scotty, I hope you know how much I appreciate you. I see the effort you put in when you’re already worn out. I see the pride you take in your work and the way you stand beside the guys. HHR is built on the backs of men like you, and I’ll never forget that.
Here’s to another year older, brother. I’m proud to work beside you, grateful to have you in my corner, and wishing you a year that gives back some of what you give everyone else.
Happy birthday, Scotty. You’ve earned a whole lot more than a slice of cake. 💪🎂

Some projects mean more than what we build. ❤️
This homeowner is rebuilding her family home, getting it ready for her mother to come home from the hospital. Being part of something so personal means a lot to our HHR crew.
We installed a beautiful slate-stamped concrete patio with a compass centerpiece and built a unique water feature—a waterfall flowing right out of the grille of an old Dodge pickup truck! We also created a little pool where the grandchildren can splash, play, and make memories together.

Got to take the crew and their families up to New York for some salmon fishing and a few days on salmon river at Browns campground. As much as I enjoyed being on the water, the best part was seeing these guys get a break from the grind and hooking into some nice Chinook kings while having time to just hang out and laugh together.
These guys give me their time, their energy, and a whole lot of hard work. They spend their days doing work that wears you out, then get up and do it again. I know they have families and lives outside of HHR, and I appreciate what they put into helping me build this business.
A fishing trip will never be enough to repay all of that, but it’s one way I can show them their effort doesn’t go unseen. To my crew—thank you. I see what you do, I appreciate you, and I’m glad we got to make these memories together. ❤️🎣

Sometimes you don’t truly know how well something was built until Mother Nature puts it to the test.
We recently built this retaining wall, and after some serious water came through, the entire area behind and underneath portions of the wall completely washed out.
And when I say washed out—I mean WASHED OUT.
There were sections where the retaining wall block was literally hanging in the air with nothing underneath it.
But here’s the crazy part…
THE WALL DIDN’T MOVE AN INCH.
No leaning. No shifting. No collapse.
Obviously, the washout and drainage issue has to be repaired, but seeing that wall remain standing after losing that much support underneath it says a whole lot about how it was built.
Anybody can build something that looks good the day they leave the job.
We want to build things that prove themselves when they’re put to the test.
That’s something our crew at Hawley’s Home Restoration can be proud of. 💪
