House not cooling? Your ducts could be compromised β dumping a ton of ice cold, expensive air into your attic! In Florida, there's a few reasons why ducts often fail:
π‘ Extreme Attic Temperatures: Over time, the intense heat bakes flexible duct materials, causing the plastic liner to become brittle, crack or tear.
π§ High Moisture & Condensation: When humid attic air hits the chilled surfaces of the AC ducts, it creates condensation. This moisture degrades duct insulation and acts as a breeding ground for mold and mildew.
π Rodents and Insects: Hot, dark attics are attractive to critters like rats, mice and squirrels. They often chew through flexible ducting to build nests, which collapses airflow and compromises the system.
π Poor Initial Installation: Many duct leaks in Florida homes occur at weak joints or "boots" where the duct meets the ceiling, or result from overly kinked/sagging flexible ducts that choke airflow.
β³ Aging Materials: Most residential duct systems have an average lifespan of about 10 to 15 years.
