We were excited to be a part of the groundbreaking for the new Mary Ann Brittain Education Center at the Prairie Ridge Ecostation, a diverse 38-acre greenspace within the City of Raleigh that has been transformed into a thriving Piedmont prairie habitat.

We were excited to be a part of the groundbreaking for the new House in the Horseshoe Visitor Center in Moore County https://historicsites.nc.gov/all-sites/house-horseshoe. Senator Tom McInnis and representatives from NC Historic Sites, NC Natural & Cultural Resources, and the Alston House Association were in attendance for the event. Thanks to Sanford Contractors https://sanfordcontractors.com/ for preparing the site.

This project is part of the NC 250 celebration https://www.america250.nc.gov/ as the site hosted a revolutionary war skirmish between a band of Whigs and the Tories under the command of David Fanning. The project is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2026.

We were excited to be a part of this panel discussion on the 15th anniversary of the Historic Chatham County Courthouse fire. The PBS documentary on this event is informative and details one of Chatham County’s most historic fires and the subsequent rebuilding efforts. The project received the NC AIA Tower Award for projects that showcase exemplary historic preservation and the adaptive reuse of buildings.

A free screening of “The Courthouse” on March 22 at the historic Chatham County Courthouse will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the fire.

We enjoyed attending the House in the Horseshoe event last weekend in Moore County, N.C. The event was well attended and featured a dramatic reenactment of a revolutionary-era skirmish between the Whigs (revolutionists) and Tories, who remained loyal to the King of England. Though women, children and men successfully defended the Alston House from burning down, numerous bullet holes from the 1781 attack remain on both exterior and interior walls that you can still see today.

We are excited to team with the NC Division of State Historic Sites to design a new visitor center for this important site along a horseshoe bend in the Deep River.
