A lot of work is happening at the Seafood Industrial Park in Newport News, and CROFTON is proud to be part of it.

Our team recently helped transform the waterfront by removing two aging timber piers, completing dredging work, and installing the foundations and concrete components for a new, modern pier and dock system.

These upgrades will increase capacity, improve access for watermen and commercial vessels, and provide new access for recreational boaters. The project will ultimately pave the way for a planned 7,600-square-foot seafood market.

From behind the desk to on the deck! The accounting team spends a lot of time behind the scenes keeping CROFTON running smoothly, so it was a great opportunity to get their boots on the ground...on a new CROFTON barge!

Senior Staff Accountant Lauren Tormos, Staff Accountant Mistyjo Scott and CFO Jerald Morales got an up-close look at the latest addition to the fleet and a firsthand view of something they’ve been hearing about for quite a while! It’s always a good day when the team behind the scenes gets to see the work they help support out in the field.

We were proud to welcome MARAD Administrator Stephen Carmel to CROFTON as part of a Hampton Roads maritime visit coordinated by the Hampton Roads Alliance.

Regional maritime leaders gathered at CROFTON for lunch and conversation focused on the maritime workforce, commercial shipbuilding, and opportunities to grow U.S. maritime capabilities.

The visit also included stops at Colonna's Shipyard and Fairwinds Landing, highlighting the depth and diversity of Hampton Roads’ maritime and industrial capabilities.

Thank you to the Hampton Roads Alliance for bringing regional leaders together for this important conversation, and to everyone working to strengthen the maritime industry and workforce here in Hampton Roads.

Not every day on the water goes according to plan. When a boat ran aground at Factory Point in Hampton, VA, CROFTON was called in to help.

CROFTON brought in a crane barge to carefully lift the boat and make temporary repairs to patch the damaged hull. Then we put it back in the water so it could be driven to the site where it will undergo permanent repairs.

From recovery to temporary repairs, this was a job that took the right equipment, experience and teamwork from start to finish.

We were proud to welcome students from Kempsville High School and Green Run Collegiate to CROFTON as part of a Virginia Maritime Association workforce development event.

The students have been exploring Hampton Roads’ maritime industry through visits to facilities including Q.E.D. Systems, Inc., Nauticus, and The Port of Virginia. At CROFTON, they got a closer look at the hands-on careers that keep the maritime industry moving.

They stepped into the crane cab and got to pull the levers themselves, met with our dive equipment team to learn about dive equipment and safety, and got an up-close look at cofferdams, our dive training tank, and decompression chambers. They even watched a diver suit up and enter the tank.

We’re proud to help give the next generation a firsthand look at the career opportunities within Hampton Roads’ maritime industry.

A big thank you to the Virginia Maritime Association for coordinating this experience and to the students for bringing their curiosity and enthusiasm!

This , we're looking back at the Cromo. In 1951, after two years in business, Juan Crofton and Duke Morris purchased the Cromo, so named because Juan won the coin toss! A 50’ wooden vessel built in 1935 at Bremerton Naval Shipyard in Washington State, she was originally called “Liberty Launch” and spent time at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and the Naval Academy before finding her permanent home.

Juan designed the conversion to a commercial dive vessel, taking inspiration from Norshipco Tug for the wheelhouse.

While the Cromo is still in use, she is retired from her professional life. She's often spotted at various maritime events and is a staple at Norfolk’s annual Harbor Fest.

From the champagne skirt greeter to live music, a magician, and acrobats, it was an unforgettable night celebrating the people and connections that make Virginia’s maritime community so strong.
