On this example part the lines cross at about 8,600 parts a year, and past that the mold wins on paper. In real life you'd also be waiting 8 to 16 weeks for tooling, paying $2,000 to $8,000 every time the design changes, and buying months of parts before they sell, so the real crossover ends up a lot higher.

Over a hundred people have sat in this chair, and all of it came off a printer: about twenty hours on a large format machine, in carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene.
