This summer, Rowan and Jackson didn't just observe — they contributed. 🎓

Our 2026 Summer Internship Program at Olson Aluminum Castings challenged both interns to take full ownership of real projects with real impact. From hands-on time on the foundry floor to standing in front of leadership and presenting their findings, these two earned every bit of what they accomplished.

Rowan led a project focused on degassing process improvements — analyzing current practices, identifying opportunities, and presenting data-backed recommendations to the team.

Jackson took on process sheets and furnace allocation, developing uniform board standards built around operator input and designed to give the foundry floor one clear signal at every station.

Both interns presented their work to OAC leadership in a formal capstone session — and the room was impressed.

We believe the foundry industry's future depends on structured, intentional talent development. Our internship program is built on that belief. We're proud of what Rowan and Jackson built this summer, and we're grateful they chose to build it here.

Olson Aluminum Castings is expanding our in-house heat treating system. 🔥

100% of our A356 aluminum castings are heat treated right here in our facility — and as our business grows, so must our capacity.

Heat treatment is one of the few inherently slow processes in sand casting production. Raw castings sit in a pit furnace at nearly 1,000°F for 10 hours, then are immediately quenched in hot water. From there, they go through an artificial aging cycle at approximately 350°F for 3 hours to complete the T6 heat treatment process.

To meet growing demand, Olson Aluminum designed both pit furnaces and the quench tank in-house — expanding our heat treat capacity by 50%. We’ve also added a second aging oven: a brand new Precision Quincy custom age oven built to OAC specifications, manufactured just down the road in South Beloit, IL.

The new oven handles two pit furnace heat treatment baskets per cycle. They roll in on a custom Precision Quincy cart riding on junior railroad rails — cast flush into the new concrete floor.

A couple times a year, the whole team steps off the foundry floor and onto the patio. 🌽🔥

It's a tradition that's been part of Olson Aluminum Castings since the early days — a corn boil and cookout with the full crew from OAC and Sky Bracket. Northern Illinois sweet corn, burgers on the grill, and the people who make this company what it is.

We brought our friends at Bad Humor Ice Cream right into the floor at Olson Aluminum Castings this week — vintage ice cream truck, handmade sandwiches, and all. Our team deserved it.

80 years of pouring aluminum in Rockford, IL — and we've never poured anything quite like a Crack Sammie. 🙌

Thank you Bad Humor for rolling up to 15th Street and taking care of the hardest working crew in town. Two great Rockford businesses, one delicious afternoon.
