I'm going with wenge handle scales for the wrought/5160 sanmai sharpfinger-style knife I'm making for the June bladesmithing challenge.

After etching in ferric chloride, I decided to etch the June bladesmithing challenge knife in coffee to enhance the contrast, and it is working!

I etched my sanmai sharpfinger-style knife for the June bladesmithing challenge, and you can see a bit of the texture in the wrought iron cladding, as well as the line between it and the 5160 core, but it isn't as defined as I'd like. I'm going to try a coffee etch, next, and see if that helps.

Help support our veterans by helping fund the Giant City Stables Horses for Heroes program! I will be forging several more knives from farrier's rasps used to care for their horses, and donating the proceeds from selling them directly to Giant City Stables!

Hand forged spring steel Okinawan kanzashi/jifa (hairpin) with a black oxide finish. These were used as symbols of status in Ryukyuan society, as well as being tools to control one's hair, and last-ditch self-defense tools. Historically, they would typically be made of gold, silver, or wood, but I make these from spring steel so that they hold up to self-defense training.

The fundraiser farrier's rasp fantasy bowie has been quenched and is now being tempered. Handle scales are yet to be selected, but attaching those will be the next step. This one is spoken for, but I will be forging more farrier's rasp knives to raise money for the Giant City Stables Horses for Heroes program, so be sure to follow me to see them forged and have a chance to own one and support a good cause!

I just finished an apocalyptic style sheath for a belt knife I recently forged from a Texas Edition Chevy Silverado leaf spring. It is available!

The first of a pair of hand-forged Okinawan tekko (knuckledusters) is roughed out. Time for grinding and attaching the grip.

I rough ground the June bladesmith challenge knife after heat treating it and dunked it in ferric chloride to do a test etch, just to be sure the core layer of my sanmai stayed on the edge. I can't wait to see this one finished, as the cladding is wrought iron, which I've never used before.

These cracks appeared on this O1 sgian dubh after having to redo the heat treat. We'll see if they're just surface cracks as I do more grinding.
