After the Rain: What to Check Around Your Home
1. Check Your Basement or Crawlspace
Look for standing water, moisture, or signs of mold. Moisture can come from poor drainage, groundwater, leaking pipes, plumbing problems, or high humidity. Addressing water issues early can help prevent costly foundation and mold problems.
2. Check Your Gutters and Downspouts
Make sure your gutters are free of leaves and debris and that water is not overflowing. Downspouts should direct water away from your home’s foundation.
3. Check Your Yard for Standing Water
Some standing water after heavy rain is normal. However, if water remains for several days or drains toward your home, you may have a drainage problem that should be addressed.
4. Check Your Windows
Look for moisture, condensation, or mold around your windows and window sills. Dry any moisture as soon as possible. Persistent moisture may indicate a sealing or window problem that needs attention.
Protect Your Home Before Small Problems Become Expensive Repairs.
If you notice water draining toward your home or moisture around your foundation, consider having your drainage and waterproofing needs inspected.
