Built for Departments Nationwide. Spencer Manufacturing is a family-owned business located in South Haven, Michigan. The company began as a fabrication shop and started refurbishing fire apparatus and other large construction equipment in 1982. During the next three years, the focus of the company shifted entirely to the fire and rescue truck industry. The current focus of the company is the produ

ction of new, custom-manufactured fire and rescue apparatus built on either custom or commercial chassis. Our flexibility and willingness to build each apparatus to fit the customer's needs truly defines our goal of being a "custom-manufacturer." We are well known for the quality apparatus we produce. Many of our employees have a current or past fire-fighting experience and their input is a valuable asset to our manufacturing process. Sometimes purpose-built means less truck - not more.

We’re proud to see Lima Fire Department ’s new Spencer light rescue highlighted in Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment .

When Lima began rethinking its rescue response, the department took a closer look at the equipment carried on its heavy rescue and how often that equipment was actually needed on a typical fire or rescue scene.

Their solution was a different approach: move specialized trench, structural collapse and high-angle rescue equipment to three dedicated trailers, while using a smaller, purpose-built Spencer rescue for rescues, structure fires, MVAs and medical-assist EMS calls.

According to Deputy Chief Lee Short, spreading that specialized equipment across the trailers has helped save wear and tear on the larger truck by using the smaller light rescue.

Purpose-built starts with understanding how a department operates.

Delivery Spotlight!! The Wilbraham Fire Department (MA) recently took delivery of their new Spencer pumper! This apparatus features a Spencer aluminum body with hinged aluminum doors riding on a Spartan Metro Star chassis. The Hale Qmax pump is motivated by a Cummins 450HP L9 diesel engine. The pump, rated at 1500GPM, pulls water from a 1000 gallon tank. Scene and warning light duties are handled by Whelen with brow lights by HiViz LED Lighting.
