For ancient surveyors and engineers, the summer solstice provided a vital reference point for creating solar calendars, aligning monumental structures, and calculating the Earth's circumference. The sun’s apparent standstill at this time offered a consistent baseline for city planning and agricultural management, allowing for precise grids based on summer solstice sunrises and sunsets.
