September changes the backyard.⁣

Not because the pool changes.⁣

Because the sun does.⁣

A month ago, you could spend most of the evening outside and barely think about the lighting.⁣

Now the days are getting shorter.⁣

And before long, a lot more of the time you spend around the pool is going to happen after the sun starts dropping.⁣

That’s when lighting really starts to matter.⁣

Not just because it looks good.⁣

Because it changes how the whole space works.⁣

The pool stays inviting.⁣

The steps and walkways are easier to see.⁣

The landscaping doesn’t disappear when daylight does.⁣

The house still feels connected to the backyard.⁣

And instead of everybody automatically heading inside when it gets dark...⁣

the backyard still feels like somewhere you want to stay.⁣

That’s why lighting is something worth thinking about as part of the design, not something you tack on at the very end.⁣

Where do people walk?⁣

Where do they sit?⁣

What should stand out?⁣

What needs to stay visible?⁣

What do you want the backyard to feel like when the sun is gone?⁣

Those questions matter a whole lot more in September than they did in the middle of June.⁣

And we’ve still got plenty of pool season left.⁣

The days are just changing.⁣

Your backyard should be ready to change with them.⁣

If you’re planning a pool for next year, don’t only picture it at 2:00 in the afternoon.⁣

Picture it like this too.⁣

If you’re getting pool quotes this fall...⁣

don’t start by comparing the price at the bottom.⁣

Start by making sure you’re actually comparing the same project.⁣

That sounds obvious.⁣

It usually isn’t.⁣

One quote might include the electrical work.⁣

Another might leave that for you to figure out.⁣

One might include the patio and coping.⁣

Another might only be pricing the pool itself.⁣

One might include the heater, cover, automation and equipment you actually want.⁣

Another might use completely different equipment.⁣

Then there are the things people forget to ask about.⁣

Who pulls the permits?⁣

Who coordinates inspections?⁣

What’s covered under warranty?⁣

What happens if something changes?⁣

And probably one of the biggest ones...⁣

Who is actually running your project once you sign?⁣

Those details matter.⁣

Because two proposals can both say “pool” at the top and still be describing two very different projects.⁣

So if you’re collecting quotes for next year, here’s the question I’d keep asking:⁣

“What exactly is included in this number?”⁣

Then go line by line.⁣

- Pool and materials⁣
- Pump and equipment⁣
- Electrical work⁣
- Concrete and hardscaping⁣
- Permits and inspections⁣
- Warranty and service⁣
- Who’s actually running the project⁣

Anything that could change the final price later⁣

And anything that could change the final price later.⁣

The cheapest number isn’t automatically the best deal.⁣

The highest number isn’t automatically the best project either.⁣

You just need to understand what you’re actually buying.⁣

If you’ve got quotes in front of you and you’re having a hard time making sense of them, give us a call.⁣

We’re happy to help you understand what questions to ask.⁣

Here’s a pool-design question people don’t ask enough.⁣

Where does everybody go when they’re not in the water?⁣

Think about a normal Saturday.⁣

A couple kids are swimming.⁣

Somebody’s shooting hoops.⁣

Someone else is sitting by the pool talking.⁣

Food’s coming in and out of the house.⁣

Maybe half the people outside never get in the water at all.⁣

That matters when you’re planning the space.⁣

You need room to swim.⁣

But you also need room to sit without being in the splash zone.⁣

A clear path back to the house.⁣

Places where you can still see what’s happening in the pool.⁣

Enough open space that everybody isn’t piled on top of each other.⁣

And once the sun starts dropping, you want the backyard to keep working instead of everybody automatically heading inside.⁣

That’s why we don’t think the pool should be the only thing worth planning.⁣

The best backyard is one where the swimmer, the person grilling, the grandparents sitting down, and the kids running around can all be out there together.⁣

They don’t have to be doing the same thing.⁣

They just have to have a reason to stay.⁣

So if you’re planning a pool, don’t only picture yourself standing in the water.⁣

Picture the whole Saturday.⁣

That’ll tell you a lot about the backyard you actually need.⁣

And if you want help working through what that could look like at your house, give us a call.⁣

One thing I like about seeing a pool from above...⁣

You can tell pretty quickly whether it actually fits the backyard.⁣

Not just physically.⁣

I mean whether it feels like it belongs there.⁣

Look at how much of the yard is still usable here.⁣

There’s room around the pool.⁣

Room to sit.⁣

Room to move.⁣

Room for landscaping.⁣

And still plenty of grass left over.⁣

That matters.⁣

Because the goal shouldn’t always be to fit the biggest pool you possibly can into the space.⁣

Sometimes the better decision is leaving enough room for the rest of the backyard to still feel like a backyard.⁣

That’s why pool placement matters so much.⁣

Where it sits in relation to the house.⁣

How much deck you actually need.⁣

How people are going to move around it.⁣

What you want to keep open.⁣

Where everyone is going to gather.⁣

And what you want the property to feel like when you’re not even swimming.⁣

A pool is a big part of the backyard.⁣

But it shouldn’t have to become the entire backyard.⁣

The best layout is the one that gives your family the pool you want while still making the rest of the property more enjoyable too.⁣

That’s something this view shows really well.⁣

If you’ve been wondering what size pool actually makes sense for your yard, that’s one of the first things worth talking through.⁣

Finished photos matter.⁣

But they don’t tell you what it was like to get there.⁣

Before you hire a pool builder, look past the finished photos for a minute.⁣

You’re not just hiring the finished pool.⁣

You’re hiring the people who are going to be working around your home for days or weeks.⁣

That matters too.⁣

If I were hiring someone to do a major project at my house, here are a few things I’d want to know.⁣

Who’s actually responsible for the project?⁣

If you have a question tomorrow morning, do you know who you’re calling?⁣

When something changes...⁣

do they explain what happened and what comes next?⁣

Or do you have to chase somebody down for an answer?⁣

When something goes wrong...⁣

do they take responsibility and fix it?⁣

Or does everybody start pointing fingers?⁣

When you walk onto the jobsite...⁣

does it feel like there’s a plan?⁣

Are people checking their work before they move on?⁣

Are the little things being handled with the same care as the stuff you’ll actually see when it’s finished?⁣

And when you ask a question...⁣

does somebody actually take the time to answer it?⁣

Those things probably won’t show up in a photo like this.⁣

But you’ll feel them every day of the build.⁣

We’ve always believed you can teach somebody a lot of the technical side of this work.⁣

The harder things to teach are character.⁣

Integrity.⁣

Accountability.⁣

Work ethic.⁣

Taking pride in doing something the right way even when nobody is watching.⁣

That stuff eventually shows up in the finished project.⁣

But it shows up in the experience too.⁣

So yes...⁣

look at the finished pools.⁣

You absolutely should.⁣

But before you decide who’s building yours, pay attention to the people and the process behind them too.⁣

A finished backyard should look good.⁣

The experience getting there should feel good too.⁣

If you’re talking with builders right now, ask the questions.⁣

And if you want to know exactly how we run a project before you make a decision, give us a call.⁣

We’re always happy to walk you through it.⁣

Four weeks ago this backyard was grass.⁣

Today there's a pool full of water sitting in it.⁣

This is the Johnston project we broke ground on at the end of July.⁣

Since then the pool went in, the plumbing got run, the coping went on, and the crew's been backfilling and grading the space around it.⁣

That blue water sneaks up on people every time.⁣

One day it's dirt and pipe and gravel. ⁣

Then the water goes in and the whole thing gets real.⁣

We're not done yet.⁣

Retaining walls, planter beds, and landscape lighting are up next.⁣

That's what I love about this one. ⁣

The pool is just the start of what this backyard is going to be.⁣

We'll keep showing you as it comes together.

Before you open your pool after a storm...⁣

Look at the cover first.⁣

If there’s standing water on it, pump that water off before you open it.⁣

That’s one of the little things we go through during Pool School that’s easy to forget until you need it.⁣

Keep the cover pump on the cover when it’s closed.⁣

Let it do its job.⁣

Then take a quick look at the tracks too.⁣

Leaves, sticks and other debris have a way of finding their way in there, especially after weather rolls through.⁣

Keep those tracks clean.⁣

Then open the cover.⁣

That’s it.⁣

Nothing complicated.⁣

But little habits like this make pool ownership a whole lot easier.⁣

A lot of people spend a ton of time researching which pool they want...⁣

and almost no time learning how to actually take care of it once it’s theirs.⁣

We think that part matters too.⁣

That’s why we don’t hand somebody the keys to a new pool and say, “good luck.”⁣

Before we leave, we walk through the system together.⁣

How it works.⁣

What to watch.⁣

What needs regular attention.⁣

And who to call when something doesn’t look right.⁣

If you’ve already got a pool and nobody ever showed you this stuff...⁣ save this one.

Before you save another pool photo...⁣

Go sit in your backyard tonight.⁣

Seriously.⁣

Give it 20 minutes.⁣

Notice where the sun is.⁣

Where the shade finally hits.⁣

Where everybody naturally wants to sit.⁣

How you get from the house to the yard.⁣

What part of the space you never really use.⁣

And what would make you stay outside another hour.⁣

That stuff matters.⁣

Because when you start planning a backyard from pictures alone, it’s easy to fall in love with somebody else’s space.⁣

Their house.⁣

Their yard.⁣

Their family.⁣

Their priorities.⁣

The better place to start is with your own.⁣

How do you want to spend a normal Friday night out there?⁣

Who’s usually with you?⁣

What do you wish was easier?⁣

What do you wish you had?⁣

Those answers tell you a lot more than a folder full of inspiration photos ever will.⁣

Save the pictures.⁣

They’re helpful.⁣

But pay attention to your actual backyard too.⁣

That’s where the plan really starts.⁣

If next summer has been on your mind, this weekend is a pretty good time to start noticing.

This part never gets old.⁣

Standing next to a finished project like this, I don’t just see the pool.⁣

I remember what it took to get here.⁣

The conversations.⁣

The decisions.⁣

The days everything went according to plan.⁣

And the days we had to stop, figure something out, and keep moving.⁣

I remember the point where the homeowner could finally start seeing what we’d been talking about for months.⁣

Then eventually...⁣

The water goes in.⁣

The equipment is running.⁣

The yard gets put back together.⁣

And one day, you step back and realize it’s done.⁣

That’s a pretty good feeling.⁣

But honestly, what sticks with me most is thinking about everything that happens after we leave.⁣

Kids growing up around this pool.⁣

Friends coming over.⁣

Birthdays.⁣

Cookouts.⁣

Summer nights when nobody really wants to go inside yet.⁣

And probably a whole lot of completely normal Tuesdays that end up being some of the best memories.⁣

For a homeowner, this might be something they’ve pictured for years.⁣

We get trusted to actually build it.⁣

I don’t take that lightly.⁣

Grateful for every family that’s given us the opportunity to be a small part of their story.⁣

The pool is what we build.⁣

The life that happens around it is why it matters.

You don’t need a plan.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
You just need a starting point.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Most homeowners don’t call us with the entire backyard figured out.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
They usually know one thing.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
“𝘞𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘭.”⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Maybe you’ve saved a few photos.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Maybe you know how you want the backyard to feel.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Maybe you’ve been talking about it for years but still don’t know what will fit, what it will cost, or where to begin.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
That’s normal.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
You’re not supposed to have all of those answers yet.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
That’s what the first conversation is for.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We start by asking questions.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
How will your family use the space?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Who will normally be out there?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
What does your property allow?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
What matters most to you?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
What would you like to add later?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Then we start putting the pieces together.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- The layout.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- The pool.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- The patio.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- The grade.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
- The features.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
And the realistic investment involved.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
You don’t need to show up with a finished design.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
You just need to tell us what you’ve been imagining.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
We’ll help you turn that into a plan that actually makes sense for your home.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Send us a message when you’re ready to start talking it through.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
