PTFE lined Instrument Tee
A PTFE lined instrument tee is a specialised piping fitting designed with a rugged outer metallic shell and an internal liner made of Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Its primary function is to integrate measurement instruments safely (such as pressure gauges, thermowells, sensors, or sampling lines) into pipelines carrying highly aggressive or corrosive chemicals without destroying the instrumentation or causing leaks.
Key Applications
✔ Corrosive Processing: Used extensively in chemical factories, pharmaceutical industries, petrochemical plants, and water treatment facilities.
✔ High Purity Streams: Found in the food processing and semiconductor industries due to the anti-contamination, non-stick, and smooth flow properties of PTFE.
✔ Instrument Protection: Isolates the sensitive metal alloy of instruments from harsh acids, alkalis, and solvents.
Technical Specifications & Design
✔ Size Range: Typically, available from 15 mm to 300 mm (½″ to 12″ NB), featuring a reduced branch bore specific to instrument sizes.
✔ Body Materials: Fabricated out of high-strength metals like Carbon Steel (ASTM A106 / A234 Gr. WPB), Ductile Iron, or Stainless Steel (SS 304/316).
✔ Connection Type: Often comes in wafer styles to fit neatly inside the bolt circle of standard fl**ges without taking up bulky pipeline space, or with standard fl**ged ends (ANSI Class 150/300 or DIN).
✔ Temperature and Pressure: Capable of handling operating limits from –40 °C up to +200 °C and internal system pressures up to 3.0 MPa depending on the specific application.
✔ Quality Testing: Manufacturers routinely use 15 KVA Spark Testing alongside Hydrostatic testing to ensure the liner is completely free of microscopic pinholes and 100% leak-proof.
