Why your off-road caravan solar setup might be failing! ☀️🏕️

Before we start working on mods for this Bush Lapa Miskruier, we’re tackling a very common issue with permanent caravan solar panel installations.

As you can see in the video, mounting a solar panel only by its short ends leaves the long span completely unsupported.

When you hit corrugated off-road tracks, that panel flexes and oscillates constantly—leading to dreaded micro-cracks, power output drops, and premature failure! 🛑🔋

⚠️ QUICK CARAVAN ELECTRICAL INSPECTION REVEALS DANGER: Why This Jurgens Explorer Electrical Setup is a Ticking Time Bomb! 🚨⚡

Just conducted a pre-trip electrical inspection on a recently purchased Jurgens Explorer offroad caravan, and what I found inside is a classic example of severe safety hazards waiting to happen off-grid. 🛠️🏕️

If you’re buying a second-hand offroad caravan or prepping for a bush trip, never skip a thorough 12V inspection!

Here is the list of high-risk flaws I uncovered in this setup:
❌ Unsecured Battery:
While the outer battery box was bolted down, the 12V battery inside was completely loose—sliding, bouncing, and straining connections.

❌ Critically Depleted Battery Cells:
Battery reading dropped all the way to 0.48V (irreversibly damaged calcium battery).

❌ Zero Fuse Protection:
Unfused battery leads running across the van—including exposed, bare cables under the second bed.
One pinched cable on an offroad track or the 2 endpoints touching could trigger an electrical fire!

❌ Undersized & Loose Wiring:
Degraded exterior connectors, loose terminal connections, and undersized solar wiring causing major voltage drop.

Before you hit the dirt roads, make sure your batteries are tied down, fuses are installed right at the positive terminals, and all cable gauges are properly calculated! 🔌🔥

Building a bulletproof power system for an off-road trailer means thinking about real-world campsite challenges—like dust, heavy weather, and tricky shade!

In this video, we break down the design of our custom power input plate featuring a 230V AC mains plug and two dedicated Solar PV inputs.

Why 2 solar inputs? It lets us combine a main 200W kit with a portable solar 240W book kit, manage campsite shade by stretching panels up to 10 meters away, and even handle reverse charging between the tow vehicle and the trailer to keep multiple fridges running smoothly.

We skipped standard off-the-shelf flush mounts to completely eliminate dust and water ingress using heavy-duty rubber grommets and UV-stabilized cables.
