Our recent drone exploration of the historical Chesney Mine near Cobar has made the news!

Captured by our Mine Survey team in January this year, the footage reveals underground workings last mined around 1950.

Following the interest generated by the footage, our Technical Services Manager Cobar Region, Ryan Cunningham was interviewed by 7NEWS Central West this week to discuss the role drone technology is playing in supporting safe and informed mining practices.

Last week, key infrastructure was successfully removed from our Dargues Mine and relocated to our Peak processing plant, supporting the next phase of growth at Peak while advancing rehabilitation works at Dargues.

The relocation of the primary ball mill, electrical switch room and control room marks a significant milestone. Further assets have previously been removed through our successful asset sale program. It’s a strong example of smart planning, efficient ex*****on and making the most of existing infrastructure.

Read the full story on our website to see how this milestone is helping shape the future of our Cobar operations:

The week beginning 16 January 2026 saw the successful removal of key infrastructure from the Dargues Mine as part of its ongoing rehabilitation, while simultaneously supporting the expansion of the Peak processing plant.

It’s been approximately 76 years since it was last mined. Now parts of the historical Chesney Mine are back in view thanks to underground drone technology.

Last mined around 1950, this footage was captured in early January by our Mine Survey team using our new underground drone, providing a rare look into old workings that have been untouched for decades.

Using underground drones allows us to safely explore and map historic voids while keeping our people out of harm’s way. The footage highlights just how much mining has evolved and how far our methods and technology have come since these areas were last active.

A big thank you to the Mine Survey team and capturing this invaluable piece of Cobar mining history that honours the past and supports our future growth in the region.

Back in December, we rolled out the welcome mat for six students from universities across NSW and Queensland as part of our 2025/2026 Vacation Program. Fast forward to this week and they’re wrapping up their time with Aurelia.

Over the course of the Program, the students tackled a project, their work spanning underground geological mapping, truck utilisation and performance analysis, rehabilitation planning and compliance, plant optimisation, data-driven problem solving, and process improvements. This week, each student prepared and delivered a presentation to the executive team, site leaders and their mentors that shared their project outcomes, key learnings and recommendations.

When prompted to describe their experience in one word by our Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Quinn, they said their time was shaped by the ‘scale’ of our operations, getting ‘dirty’ (in a good way) on site, experiencing technical and personal ‘growth’ a ‘fascinating’ journey full of ‘variety’, and ultimately ‘enlightening’.

On behalf of everyone at Aurelia, thank you Thomas Downey, Vinh Nguyen-Pakabutr, Ashley Savage, Lachlan Arrand, Jonathan Sayer and Thomas Yang for the energy, curiosity and professionalism you brought to the Program. Your contributions have been genuinely valued and you’ve left a positive mark on the teams you worked with. We wish you all the very best with your studies and we're so proud to have been a part of your career journey.

A big thank you also to our site teams for generously supporting and mentoring our students. Your time and guidance played a crucial role in the success of our 2025/2026 Vacation Program.

Community spirit filled the room last Sunday 8 February at the Cobar Bowling and Golf Club as the Cobar Senior Men’s Swimming Club, the Cobar Yabbies, came together for their annual swimming carnival awards lunch.

As event sponsors, we were honoured to attend the lunch and present the carnival trophies. It was also wonderful to celebrate the Yabbies' achievements with its members and the strong friendships that are at the heart of the club.

Backing community clubs reflects our ongoing commitment to Cobar and the people who make it such a great place to live and work!

Yesterday, we welcomed three new apprentices to our Aurelia team, officially signing on after completing their orientation.

The day marked an important milestone, with a formal sign-on alongside Apprenticeship Support Australia and, for apprentices under 18, the chance to bring parents along for a light morning tea and introductions. A nice way to kick off what will be an exciting journey ahead!

Apprenticeships play a key role in building strong teams and a strong industry. We're so proud to be backing the next generation at Aurelia!
