One year of On Track Queensland! 🥳🔧

What a year it’s been. Plenty of services, breakdowns, rebuilds and long days — and a lot to be proud of.

To my family and friends, thank you for the support, patience and sacrifices along the way. To every customer who trusted me with their gear, and every supplier, dealer and business who helped me get the job done — thank you.

Whether you’ve booked a job, passed my number on or backed me from day one, you’ve helped build this business. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Intermittent fuel starvation issues. Previous mechanic had suggested it was a cracked fuel filter bowl. But when the tank looks like this it’s a great place to start. Pick up tube totally clogged with rust flakes

4 hours chasing electrical faults through blown fuses, relays and switches. Finally locating a short deep in the wiring harness for a work light which had melted and fused together with other wires including a ground wire.

What started as a simple flat battery/ key issue turned into something significantly more in depth. Faulty wiring and relays, Chinese diagrams to decipher, lots of things that weren’t doing what they were meant to do, and next minute were fine again. I thought I had it finally dialed down to a bad starter, though not with normal symptoms. Then I bench tested it and it worked perfectly. Next step, bar the engine over and make sure the engine or pump are locked up.

A decent 2 day job (about 12 hours total) to get this E55 back up and running with a new pump coupler. While not necessarily a “dealer workshop only” job, it does help to have a forklift or excavator available to remove the counterweight. But no job is too big for On Track to handle. And the best part, customer machine failed Friday arvo and back to work Wednesday morning. A day earlier if parts didn’t have to get flown from interstate. But certainly not a few weeks without a machine.

I get asked a bit about if it’s ok to mix coolant colours. The general answer is no, but it’s more than just mixing colours. Because red and green coolant could be the exact same just from different manufacturers. Some are designed to last longer. Some have additives that others don’t. BUT IF YOU OWN A BOBCAT, DO NOT ADD ANYTHING BUT BOBCAT COOLANT! I say that in all caps because the cost of making that mistake is in the thousands. Bobcat uses Propylene Glycol, whereas most coolant is Ethylene Glycol. When these mix it turns into a brown sludge which blocks everything. Water pumps, oil cooler, radiator, EGR, cooling galleries. Most parts have to be replaced if they can’t be 100% flushed through. So if you’re unsure, just add distilled water. It’ll lower the strength of your coolant, but it’s better than adding the wrong one.
