Pacific Marine Group was proud to be part of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission’s Aus/PNG Business Exchange mission last week.

We were honoured to showcase our Kimbe Wharf Rehabilitation Project to the delegation, a fantastic opportunity to highlight the work we’re doing on the ground in PNG.
The delegation brought together professionals from across infrastructure, energy, digital, and strategic management, making for a highly collaborative and insightful week.
A big thank you to Austrade for an incredible program, including:
⚓ Introductions to Western New Britain government leaders
⚓ Networking with the West New Britain Chamber of Commerce
⚓ Connecting with key stakeholders in Port Moresby
⚓ Site visits like the Kumbango Biogas Plant and Kimbe markets

It was an invaluable experience gaining firsthand insight into the opportunities and challenges of working in regional Papua New Guinea and learning from other successful businesses operating in the region.

We were also fortunate to hear from key stakeholders and funding partners, including AIFFP, who support projects like ours – the Kimbe Wharf Rehabilitation Project.

An inspiring group of people and a brilliant week all round, PMG were very proud to be part of it.

Thank you to everyone involved, especially, the Austrade Team: Ben, Jodie, Esther, Patrick, Kemboi, Alu, Rosemary!

PMG in PNG🫶

Not your everyday stroll..🚶‍➡️

Walking a crawler crane off a barge might look slow and smooth from the sidelines, but it’s a job that takes serious planning, precision, and a whole lot of expertise.

We have brought our 180T Crawler Crane from Townsville Qld across to Kimbe PNG, to commence the Stone Column Scope as part of the PNG Ports, Kimbe Port Upgrade.

Every move of this crane walk off, is calculated, every angle considered, because there’s no room for guesswork when you’re shifting this kind of gear from the ocean to land!

Another solid step forward on this project and a great reflection of the team’s skill and coordination on the ground.

PMG is proud to support PNG Ports and the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) in maximising local participation on the Kimbe Port Upgrade.

A key part of this commitment is our partnership with Savcor ART PNG Ltd, one of our primary subcontractors. Savcor ART brings extensive experience in the repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of marine infrastructure, having successfully delivered wharf upgrade projects across Papua New Guinea since 2007. Importantly, their works are carried out by a PNG national workforce, strengthening local capability and industry participation.

On the Kimbe Port Upgrade, Savcor ART is delivering critical repair and rehabilitation works including piles, pile caps, decking, precast elements, formwork, bollards, and associated demolition activities.

This project is also creating meaningful opportunities for skills development. Through on-the-job mentoring and targeted support from Australian Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and industry specialists, PNG nationals are gaining valuable experience in:
• Welding training and assessment to Australian standards
• Operation of specialised hydro demolition equipment
• HSEQ systems and quality control processes

All works are delivered in accordance with internationally recognised ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), with independent auditing by SGS Australia.

Savcor ART is progressing well on the Kimbe works, and PMG is pleased to be working alongside them.

Through our Memorandum of Understanding, PMG reaffirms its commitment to partnering with PNG national companies, building long-term relationships and seeking future collaborative opportunities that support sustainable local industry growth.

On Saturday, our site team at Pacific Marine Group had the privilege of attending the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Kimbe, hosted by the San Remo Club.

Standing alongside community representatives, we paid our respects and laid wreaths in honour of those who served and sacrificed at great cost. It was a solemn and meaningful reminder of the courage, resilience, and mateship that define the ANZAC spirit.

Papua New Guinea remains deeply connected to this history, its landscapes still bearing relics of wartime and the legacy of significant battlefronts that shaped the course of the region. These reminders reinforce the importance of reflection and remembrance, particularly for those of us working within these communities today.

We are proud to stand with the community in remembering and acknowledging the legacy of those who gave so much.

The End of an Era.

After more than 25 years with the company, one of our most experienced, respected, and accomplished team members, Dave Harper, is retiring.
Dave joined the company in 2000 and has helped to develop PMG into a leading marine construction operation during hundreds of projects throughout Australia and the Pacific. His practical leadership, innovative thinking, and unwavering commitment to getting the job done right have left a lasting mark on both our projects and our people.
Known for his sharp wit, great sense of humour, and unmistakably cheeky personality, Dave has been a pleasure to work with and a mentor to many. His presence will be genuinely missed across the business, and by our clients and the many local communities that we work.

Dave, while some routines around here may slowly fade in your absence, your unique “innovations” in the name of efficiency will be hard to replace. And as you head into retirement with your formidable better half, we wish you the perfect balance of relaxation, adventure, and just enough structure to keep you out of trouble.
Your PMG family thank you for everything you’ve contributed over the years. Enjoy every minute of this well earned next chapter…. you’ve certainly earned it!

Lorenz Den, a Papua New Guinean national, originally from Alotau, is our Environmental Health and Safety and Community Liaison Officer on the AIFFP funded Kimbe Wharf Upgrade Project.

Lorenz first joined the PMG on the Alotau Provincial Wharf Project in 2022, where his contribution was outstanding. Owing to his exceptional work, PMG was pleased to second him to the Kimbe Wharf Upgrade Project.

“This is a great opportunity to be working with the community in my role as Environmental Health and Safety Officer (EHSO) and Community Liaison Officer (CLO), to raise awareness of this significant project and its impact within the region. I find it intriguing to be part of the very first PNG Ports wharf upgrade project, with many more to follow under the Australian Government and PNG Ports partnership,” Lorenz said.

Lorenz is heavily involved in ensuring the safety of all workers on the construction site, as well as the safety of the surrounding Kimbe community. He also leads PMG’s social safeguard programs in collaboration with the operations team, engaging with schools, businesses, community groups, and local organisations.

“To be able to induct personnel onto site, while also engaging directly with the community to raise awareness about potential social impacts and safety risks associated with the project, is very fulfilling in my role as EHSO and CLO,” he said.

“On behalf of my family back home in Alotau, I would like to thank PMG for giving me another opportunity to be involved in this project. I look forward to participating in future developments across the country and the region.”

Great Job Lorenz! PMG are grateful to have such an outstanding contributor on board our team, making a positive difference every day on the job and amongst the community!
