A big thank you to the Nature Conservancy of Canada for hosting such a meaningful event at Buffalo Pound Lake.

We’re proud to partner with NCC to expand conservation in an area that supports clean drinking water for about 25% of the province. Together, we’ve helped secure 515 additional acres of native grassland, bringing the total protected area to more than 2,600 acres.

It was inspiring to see the impact of this work firsthand and to celebrate the partnerships that make it possible—protecting grasslands that help filter water, support biodiversity, and safeguard this landscape for future generations.

This Machine Monday we’re featuring the lab instrument for measuring known elements in liquid samples, from trace levels to high concentrations… the Spectro Arcos ICP-OES!

How it works:
💨 A nebulizer turns the sample into a fine mist
🔥 The mist enters a plasma torch to excite the atoms
✨ Each excited atom emits light at specific wavelengths and the detector measures the intensities.

We have two ICP instruments for uptime and method needs, and they’re primarily used to check impurities in solid samples.

Because ICP OES analyzes liquids, solid samples are digested in nitric acid before analysis.

⚡ Throughput: up to 40 samples/day
