We have until July 22nd to take action against the new proposal. Canada’s ‘major projects’ should not come at the cost of the environment.
Join UBC The Wildlife Society and Varsity Outdoors Club for an environmental advocacy workshop in collaboration with Dr. Sarah Otto. She is the co-liaison of the Species at Risk Advisory Committee for Canada and a professor for the UBC Biodiversity Research Centre.
This will be an evening of letter writing, learning how to find and contact your Member of Parliament, and hearing more on how one of the world’s top biodiversity researchers advocates for our planet.
Right now, Canada is putting forward a discussion paper to fast-track major projects and set aside “jeopardy tests” for our species at risk. Major mining and energy projects can be approved despite the risk they pose to our threatened and endangered species, like the resident killer whales and woodland caribou. As young adults, we hold the power to change our planet for the better, and our voices must be heard to enshrine all life on this land with protection and the right to exist.
