We had to take to the skies for this one… 🚁🏡

At Amies Farm, our team tackled the challenge of replacing the roof on a 350-year-old Catslide structure. The oak beams were weathered and dense, like those of the Mary Rose (King Henry VIII's warship, if you didn't know), which demanded precision and patience at every stage.

The goal? To carefully integrate a naturally insulated, airtight membrane and create a thermal envelope that respects the building’s history while delivering modern performance.

The result is a roof that not only preserves character but also brings abundant natural light, improved energy efficiency, and a home ready for the next generation.

What exactly is an air source heat pump - and how does it work? 🌬️♻️

Unlike a boiler, an air source heat pump doesn’t create heat - it moves it. Using a clever refrigeration cycle, it pulls warmth from the outside air (even in cold weather!) and transfers it into your home as usable heat.

There are two main types:
✅ Air to water – heats radiators, underfloor heating, and sometimes hot water
✅ Air to air – similar to air conditioning, warms the air directly

Because heat pumps deliver lower temperatures than traditional boilers, they work best in well-insulated, airtight homes - something we take seriously in every project we design and build.
