Natural Hydraulic Lime isn’t suitable for all situations. Most of the time, a non-hydraulic lime mix is preferable. For permanently damp areas like retaining walls or basements, though, NHL can be the better option

Why is this sand bubbling?

This is a quicklime and sand mix. When water is added, the quicklime reacts with it, reaching up to 300 degrees.

What you get is a beautifully sticky, breathable, workable lime plaster.

This old lath wall was super wobbly with a lot of hollow sections and a roughly infilled door.

Hollows fixed, infill covered, skimmed with a mottled clay plaster ready for limewash or distemper.

Nice little job for a Sunday afternoon. Hot mixed lime base coat with lots of local horse hair. Back in a week or so for the float coat
