As the quality and value of a bicycle increase, the problem of a stuck or seized seatpost becomes a greater issue. Most bike shops and service centres have a varied approach to this problem but almost all will use a brute force approach if the seatpost is truly seized. Modern frame materials may not respond well to this and problems can occur. Using my engineering and bicycle background I have dev

eloped a system which will remove the seatpost (intact if possible) in a safe and frame friendly way. This will also work if a previous removal attempt may have failed. I have full experience with alloy, carbon , titanium , steel and stainless steel frames and all seatpost types including droppers and aero. As far as I am aware I have 100% customer satisfaction which justifies my design and fabrication work in the tooling I use. I get a lot of my work from the cycling industry, either sent to me directly from the shop / service centre or as a recommendation to the customer. I recently did a removal for a shop I have done business with previously and unfortunately the carrier was not up to scratch so I offered to take the box personally to the shipping depot. This speeded everything up as the customer needed his bike back and rebuilt. As I wasn't expecting anything for this it was a treat to open up this thank you package from 😁. I had this lovely Hope HB 916 frameset in as an early job this week. The OneUp dropper had seized solid in the frame and the shop working on the bike had recommended my service. I think I have had two other Hope frames in my workshop previously and I'm still of the same opinion ........ the carbon layup and finish on these is second to none. Absolutely World class. Anyways..... ready to be shipped back now and on to the next......

Almost weekly I hear the phrase '' Will you be able to pull this out? '' and maybe surprisingly my answer is always ''no''. Take this lovely older handmade Mercian frame made out of Reynolds 753 thin wall butted tubing. Just a quick visual tells me that oxidization has well and truly taken hold (it's always worse on the inside than the outside) and force has already been tried due to the evidence of grip marks. It is seized solid. So, with regards to removal would the application of a pulling force be a good idea and if so how much? I am aware there are devices designed with just this purpose in mind and these are capable of pulling in excess of 3 tons and with hydraulic versions possibly up to 10 tons. I have also seen videos of frames literally snapping under these loads. If you do decide to use my service your frame will be treated with the care it deserves and the seatpost will be removed without any stress whatsoever to the frame . After a busy week last week my Friday was brightened up when Yvonne McGregor MBE pushed her trusty Orbea through the door which was requiring my service. For those in need of enlightenment, during Yvonne's competitive peak she set the World Hour Record, won both Commonwealth and World track Titles and took Bronze in the individual Pursuit in the Sydney Olympics 2000. She was made an MBE for services to cycling in 2002. Not that she would make a fuss of such achievements.... what a humble , peaceful and youthful lady she is. I must admit to being somewhat star struck. Yvonne is still competing in endurance type events to this day. What an inspiration to others .

I often think I have seen most variations on seatpost construction and design but this bi - metallic (copper and alloy) creation was definitely a first! I'm guessing the original seatpost in this steel Mercian had seized , an attempt made to remove it had failed so it was sawn off and a copper water pipe driven in . Both 'seatposts' safely removed and the seat tube polished out for a new seatpost.

So the Easter Bunny delivered my 3000th seized seatpost! This removal from Liam's carbon Cannondale makes it 13 years of 100% successful , consecutive seatpost extractions. Even happier for Liam in that it was free of charge and came with a complimentary pack of Chorley Cakes ( as do all current jobs until they run out :) )

It's getting close to that time again. That time when a Lancastrian works for free.
I'm 13 years and counting into this profession...... 13 years of happy customers and 13 years of 100% consecutively successful removals . Not a bad run and to celebrate (as is the custom) every 500th is FREE!!!!!!! The 3000th removal will be in the workshop soon..... will it be you? ( as a bonus a free pack of Chorley Cakes is in the offing too :) )

Fat bike Friday. 2025 was a busy year for me and although I get every sort of bike imaginable in the workshop I don't recall seeing a Fat bike all year. Maybe they are like buses because knock me down with rolled copy of Exchange and Mart if two don't come in on the same day! Both now sorted and ready to hit the soft stuff.
