🔨 A day in the life of a Nordri apprentice!

Next up in our apprentice series, we're spending the day with Andrew, our apprentice joiner, to see what a typical day looks like.

The day starts with the 7am ferry from Bressay, before meeting up with the joinery team and loading the van ready for the day's jobs.

The morning was spent assembling kitchen cabinets and making adjustments to get everything fitting just right, with a well-earned tea break in between! ☕

After lunch, it was off to another job to get some decking fitted.

One of the things Andrew's been learning is how to adapt kitchen cabinets to suit different spaces. And the best part of the job? There's always a good laugh working alongside the boys!

Then it's back on the ferry to Bressay at the end of another busy day. ⛴️

A good mix of jobs and plenty of hands-on experience along the way!

Paul, Murray, Duane and Gregor were down at the Birmingham NEC recently for the Solar & Storage Live 2026 exhibition. Solar & Storage Live.

They spent time meeting suppliers, looking at new solar and battery storage equipment and catching up on the latest developments in the industry.

Plenty to take away from the trip, and they even managed to fit in a visit to Black Sabbath Bridge while they were there! 🤘

This project included opening up the stairwell using glass panels, replacing internal and external doors, a full bathroom refurbishment and fitting new windows.

Plenty of work involved, with the changes giving the whole house a fresh, modern look.

A day in the life of a Nordri apprentice...⚡

Today, we’re following Ian, our Mechanical Engineer Apprentice, for the day as he heads up to Yell with David to service a KW6 wind turbine and replace its blades and springs.

The day started at 7:50am, checking the van and making sure they had everything they needed before heading for the ferry – with the essential crisps and sandwich from the Tagon shop on the way.

Once on site, Ian helped with the turbine service and fitting the new blades and springs, as well as learning how to safely lower the turbine.

The work was closely supervised by one of the locals, who wandered over to make sure everything was being done properly. 🐴

Then it was onto the 3:15pm ferry home, back to the workshop for 4:30pm and one final job – getting all the batteries back on charge for the next day.

All in a day’s work for Ian at Nordri.

Sometimes a solar job starts with a new roof. ☀️🔨

We originally visited this property to look at installing solar PV, but the condition of the existing roof meant it wasn’t suitable for the panels.

So, before the solar could go on, the roof came off.

Our team replaced the existing roof before installing the solar PV system, leaving the property with a new roof and a renewable energy system ready for the years ahead.

Here’s what the customer had to say about the job:

“The Nordri boys are fantastic and so lovely, we are 101% happy with the job.”

A good example of the different trades across Nordri working together to get the whole job done.
