📍 Whitwell, Hertfordshire
Planning Approved!!
When this family came to us, the brief was simply; more space for the years ahead, without losing the house they loved. No boxy extension, no fight with the neighbours’ rooflines, no glass wall that belongs in another street.
So we went up, not out. The rear roof over the single-storey wing is raised into a second gable that mirrors the existing one, same pitch, same ridge, same brick and dentil verge, with a quiet white-clad link between them.
From the garden the house reads as if it was always built this way. Inside, that one move unlocks an expanded double bedrooms, a Jack & Jill bathroom lit from above, and a proper landing and storage spaces.
Downstairs we took out a few walls. The kitchen opens into a dining space on the garden, the old laundry becomes a playroom, and the living room gets upgraded but farm house vibes stay intact.
No loss of garden. A home that grew with its family and kept its face.
