What would happen if every laptop and phone in your organisation stopped working tomorrow?

That question gets to the heart of cyber resilience. As Cyber Security Awareness Month at Amey comes to a close, Steve Collins, Chief Information Security Officer, explores why prevention alone is no longer enough. Organisations also need the resilience to keep operating when something goes wrong.

From AI and deepfakes to people, leadership and well-rehearsed continuity plans, Steve looks at what it takes to build resilience into modern infrastructure.

A fantastic day in Dublin at the Railway Engineering Institution (RailEI)'s Technical Seminar.

It was great to join colleagues from across the rail industry and contribute to the conversation around building more resilient, intelligence-led railways.

Nicholas Rowe shared our experience of using real-time weather and remote asset condition monitoring to help anticipate emerging risks before they impact operations and by extension, the wider communities.

A big thank you to everyone who joined the session and came to speak with us afterwards.

Today, we will be at the Railway Engineering Institution (RailEI)’s Technical Seminar event in Dublin where Nicholas Rowe will be delivering his keynote speaker session.

Join Nick at 11.15am in Session A, where he will explore how real-time weather and asset-condition data can be turned into actionable foresight, helping operators understand emerging risks and their potential impact before they disrupt railway operations.

We are looking forward to sharing our experience and joining the wider conversation around how we build more resilient railways.

Commenting on today’s Budget, Andy Milner, Chief Executive of Amey, said:

“We welcome the Budget’s focus on infrastructure, regional growth, skills and UK investment. Investment in local apprenticeship services should help connect more young people with employers and skilled careers. Amey recruits a large number of apprentices each year, and we are keen to work with government and local leaders to help more young people into work.

“Confirming funding for the Defence Investment Plan is important for national security and resilience. We also welcome the new taskforce exploring how private and international capital, procurement reform and new contracting models could accelerate defence investment.

"Amey supports defence readiness by modernising the estate, strengthening critical infrastructure and improving accommodation for service personnel. Combining capital with engineering expertise, innovation and whole-life asset management can deliver capability faster and for better value.

“The priority now is delivery. Clear, funded infrastructure and defence pipelines will give industry the confidence to invest and work with government to strengthen national resilience and deliver tangible benefits for communities.”

We are proud to announce a new Social Value Partnership with Pro Rail Academy, supporting the development of essential rail skills and training capabilities in Ireland.

Through the partnership, we will provide technical expertise, support and materials to help develop the next generation of rail professionals, particularly in Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), with potential future collaboration in signalling disciplines.

The announcement comes as Pro Rail Academy officially breaks ground on its new facility in County Mayo, which will serve as a dedicated rail training centre, Rail Innovation Hub and R&D Hub. Together, we are helping to create a pipeline of skilled talent to support future investment, innovation and growth across Ireland's rail network.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in reaching this important milestone. We look forward to working together to help build the future rail workforce.

Young people deserve every opportunity to build the skills, confidence and experience they need to succeed.

That is why we were proud to join forces with The Duke of Edinburgh's Award to bring together employers, educators, policymakers and community organisations in Sheffield to explore practical ways to tackle youth unemployment and create stronger pathways into work.

By working together, we can help more young people access opportunities that unlock their potential and support their future careers.
