Premium doesn’t always mean expensive.

For this project, the client wanted a contemporary garden screen to complement the granite walling, sandstone paving and planting scheme.

While cedar is often seen as the go-to choice for this style of fencing, we chose Cornish homegrown larch and focused on the details that really matter — timber selection, consistent spacing, clean lines and the right finish.

The fence was treated with Osmo UV Protection Oil in Light Oak, enhancing the natural variation in the timber and bringing out the warm honey and golden tones that work beautifully alongside the natural stone and landscaping.

The result is a warm, architectural backdrop that feels every bit as premium, while delivering excellent value for the client.

Sometimes achieving a luxury finish isn’t about spending more money — it’s about choosing the right materials and paying attention to the details.

Contemporary fencing underway 🔨

A lot of people think you need to spend a fortune on cedar to achieve a premium contemporary finish… but that’s not always the case.

For this project we’ve gone with Cornish homegrown larch, carefully selected and detailed to achieve a high-end look while keeping costs sensible for the client.

At the moment the larch carries some beautiful natural pink, honey and golden tones, but the next stage is where it’ll really start to come to life. We’ll be treating it with Osmo UV Protection Oil – Light Oak to warm the timber up and complement the surrounding grey patio and stonework.

The aim? A warm, contemporary screen that feels premium, natural and timeless — without unnecessary cost.

Really looking forward to seeing the transformation once the oil goes on and the fencing starts tying into the patio area 👌

Filmed this at Festool HQ in Germany — this is Frank, their head trainer, demonstrating his own door morticing machine that’s now in the museum.

Built decades ago… and still ahead of its time.

There’s a lot that goes into moments like this.

All the prep—setting out openings, installing steels, getting every detail right before anything looks finished. It’s the work no one sees, but it’s what makes this possible.

Now seeing it come together—the stonework, the structure, and the natural light pouring through these skylights—it just works.

This is the part I love.
Taking it from drawings, through the build, and turning it into a space that delivers exactly what the client envisioned.

A proper reminder of why we love what we do.

🚨 FIRST LOOK 🚨

We’ve just got our hands on the brand-new Festool PSCE 18 cordless jigsaw… and it’s not even out yet 👀

We’re lucky enough to be one of the first in the UK testing this — and honestly, first impressions are seriously strong. Precision, control, and that solid Festool feel you’d expect 👌

But I want to hear from YOU 👇

👉 What do you look for in a cordless jigsaw?
👉 Power or precision — what matters more on site?
👉 Would you switch to this for your daily use?
👉 What’s your current go-to jigsaw?

I’ll be putting this through its paces properly over the next few weeks — cutting everything from fine finish work to heavier stuff on site.

Drop your thoughts below — I’ll reply to everyone and feed your questions into the full review 🔥

This bespoke on-site joinery installation was fully detailed in CAD by the Architect and brought to life by our team using high-grade Birch Ply throughout.

Every shelf has been cut on a precise 45° angle to deliberately expose the natural ply lines, celebrating the layered structure of the material rather than concealing it. The result is a clean, contemporary aesthetic with subtle depth and texture.

Integrated seamlessly within the run of shelving is a concealed door leading into the office — maintaining the continuity of the bookcase while providing discreet access to the workspace beyond.

Modern detailing, sharp geometry and carefully considered ex*****on.

As you walk into the property, you’re met with a striking double-height atrium.

A full feature wall of Cornish stone rises from ground floor level through two storeys, drawing your eye up to the glazed apex above. Solid, grounded masonry meeting clean architectural glass.

Our stonemasons handpick and dress every stone, ensuring each detail works perfectly — from the tight joints to the carefully formed reveals. Recessed sockets are set neatly within the quoins, and Crittall-style doors sit behind the stone openings, adding a refined contemporary edge.

Another detail you may not immediately notice: the stonework is set 20mm above finished floor level, allowing the floor tile to run beneath and create a crisp negative shadow gap. The same principle is applied at ceiling level, where the plasterboard will tuck neatly into the stone, maintaining that sharp architectural break.

Traditional material. Modern precision.

We can’t wait to show you this space fully finished — it’s going to look spectacular.

Local Cornish granite at its very beginning.

This is raw material being cut at source – an impressive process where precision, patience and engineering come together to shape solid granite into usable stone. Seeing the scale and accuracy involved gives you a real appreciation for what goes into every finished detail on site.

We’re proud to be using locally sourced Cornish granite supplied by Tim Marsh, supporting quality craftsmanship and local industry here in Cornwall.

A big thank you to Tim for taking the time to show us around the facility and for the tour – it was a privilege to see the operation first-hand and gain a deeper understanding of the process behind the product.

Larch cladding installed with performance in mind, not just appearance.

Although this site is slightly inland, Cornwall sits within a specific high wind load category, which must be accounted for at design and installation stage. For that reason, each board is fixed with two stainless steel façade screws, positioned at 25% in from each edge of the board width. This fixing method allows for natural timber movement while significantly reducing the risk of cupping, twisting, and failure under wind uplift and suction.

Behind the cladding, a fully ventilated cavity is maintained to allow the timber to breathe, manage moisture, and dry effectively. This is critical to long-term durability, particularly in exposed and coastal regions.

Larch is a robust, breathable material that will weather beautifully over time — but only when detailed, fixed, and ventilated correctly. Good building is about understanding environment, materials, and method, and applying them properly.

We’re proud to have been involved in this exceptional self-build project here in Cornwall. The homeowner is a close friend, and the result is truly inspirational in demonstrating what can be achieved with vision, commitment and attention to detail.

Our team worked on the joinery elements throughout the project, along with a wide range of finishing details that help bring the architecture to life. From bespoke timber work to the finer touches, it was a pleasure contributing to a home where craftsmanship and design are so closely aligned.

A standout curved self-build that makes exceptional use of daylight and space. A privilege to be part of a project of this quality, and a great example of what is possible when ambition and skilled ex*****on come together.
