Many diagnostic laboratories still build staff rosters manually or rely heavily on Excel.

Not because rostering software does not exist, but because many available tools are complex, expensive, or not designed around the realities of diagnostic laboratory staffing.

That is why we built Lab Shift Roster, a free, simple but intelligent workforce planning tool designed specifically for diagnostic laboratories.

Laboratory rostering is about far more than filling shifts. Managers must consider staff competencies, senior cover, contracted hours, working patterns, bench and section requirements, rest periods, training capability, authorisation and workforce resilience.

LabRoster brings these factors together to help managers create and review rosters faster, while identifying potential staffing and competency risks before the rota is finalised.

Privacy was also central to the design. Workforce data is processed locally in the user's browser. Staff workbooks and generated rosters are not uploaded to or stored by Optymum SS.

Only 19% of qualified biomedical science graduates currently secure IBMS registration training positions.

That is not just a graduate problem.

It is a workforce pipeline issue for NHS diagnostics.

We are pleased to share that our Founder, Dr Daniel A Mamphey, has been published in The Biomedical Scientist.

The Biomedical Scientist is the official publication platform of the Institute of Biomedical Science, the UK’s leading professional body for biomedical scientists and laboratory professionals.

His article, “Leadership Beyond the Bench,” argues that Biomedical Scientists should also be Builders and explores why Biomedical Scientists should not only be trained to work within laboratory systems but also encouraged to improve, redesign, and build beyond them.
