Me & the travelling smithy are away at Empire Larp for the next week or so, teaching and forging away 😁

I'll be trying to respond to correspondance in the evenings if I can find signal, but please forgive the wee' delay in getting back to you. Balancing the online organisation of the business with the travel & actual blacksmithing this time of year is always a bit fraught, but I shall endeavour to do my best!

A thoroughly impressive day's work from a pair of student's last week; a trio of fire irons & a complex stand built to match an existing set of fire tools, also made by the student.

I received an email on Tuesday evening asking if I could teach on Wednesday and, 17 hours later, the fires were lit & these two gents were wading into a good day of hard work. 10 hours, several kettles of tea & more than a little winging it over many a chalk drawing, they walked away with some of the most impressive forging I've seen made on any of my experience days.

I do wish I could have snapped a better shot, but the camera was dead so had to fall back on my antique phone. Still, consider me heartily impressed & happy to have had a hand in helping :)

Hello there adventurers! Something a little different this evening, though something I reckon you might very well appreciate :)

One of the joys of being a craftsperson is finding myself surrounded by other creative folk, from florists & musicians to other craftsfolk & writers. If you follow me, it's a safe bet you're likely a fan and one of those creatives yourself, possibly with a flair for the historical & fantastical.

My good friend Dan Fox has finally opened the doors to a project he's been working away at for a while; the creation, narration & production of a fantasy series of his own creation, available for free on his Youtube channel that went live yesterday. As someone whose listened to him wax lyrical and tell tall tales with wonderful abandon over the years, I am heartily looking forward to working my way through this series whilst I forge.

One particular perk I like is the complete aversion to AI, with all writing, production & narration coming from one slightly mad, eccentric human.

If you're the type that appreciates a good audiobook, might I be so bold as to recommend you hop on over to his Youtube channel (link below) and give it a listen? And whilst ye there, throwing a Subscribe to the channel is a marvellously free way of supporting another creative put some great art out into the world!

Many thanks and, as always, thanks for helping support us eccentrics!

Greetings Traveler. I do not know how you came to be here. Perhaps you were invited. Perhaps you sought me out, or perhaps you simply stumbled in out of the cold. It matters not. You are here now and that is what matters most, so allow me to introduce myself. I am a humble weaver of tales. A wordsmi...

Blacksmith Meanderings; Are blacksmiths magical?

03/06/2026

This ones for Empire LRP (TLDR; Blacksmith lessons are back!)

Good day, adventurers! It's me again, come warm yourself by the forge and let me tell you about what me and the travelling smithy are bringing this event :)

For those who don't know me, I'm the blacksmith of Firehound Forge and we may have crossed paths at What's Your Game, LarpCon, Curious Pastimes or past Empire events. After a good long rest & building a brand new travelling smithy, I'll be bringing blacksmith lessons back again this coming event.

Lessons are taught one-on-one, last an hour and are £40 each. Safety specs and leather apron will be provided, and I recommend a sturdy pair of boots. Friends are welcome to heckle.
Items I'm happy to teach are a cloak pin, a trolls cross, a letter opener or an ammonite pendant, and obviously you keep what you make. That being said, if you want to make something specific, let me know and we'll see what we can make, with lessons running from Friday morning until Saturday evening.

Feel free to either pop along at the event and see when we can fit you in, or pre-book below. Below is a schedule with all the available timeslots, all you need to do is leave a comment below with your name and which time slot you'd like. I'll take payment when you arrive and must beg ye to be on time, as if you're late I'll offer the slot to anyone waiting. Don't make the blacksmith sad, be on time!

So if you’d fancy trying your hand at forging, drop on by. The smithy will always provide a warm welcome!

Teaching schedule for Empire Larp "Spring Equinox" (12th to 14th June 2026);

Can't believe it's my first time making one of these, I'll very likely be adding them to my market stock items in the near future!
