As part of the GeoThermal Bridge Initiative (GBI)—funded by the EEA and Norway Grants—the final workshop took place in Oradea, Romania on 28-30 January 2025. This initiative was designed to strengthen cooperation between countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Iceland, focusing on low- to medium-temperature geothermal energy development.
Participants from Romania, Iceland, Poland, and GEOTHERMICA Initiative Member States came together to share expertise and explore collaboration opportunities in various sectors related to geothermal energy.
Key workshop highlights include:
✅ Research & education exchanges to build geothermal capacity
✅ Using geothermal energy for food production, tourism & value creation
✅ Advancing district heating systems with sustainable geothermal solutions
✅ Enhancing legal frameworks for geothermal projects
✅ Discussing social license to operate within local communities
The GBI has successfully laid the groundwork for new partnerships and long-term collaboration between Romania, Iceland, and other countries in the region. This milestone marks an important step in promoting clean energy, innovation, and regional cooperation—and we, at GEORG, couldn't be more proud.
