Van Oossanen Naval Architects

Van Oossanen Naval Architects Dutch Naval Architect, expert in hydrodynamics, naval architecture and design management. We believe

Van Oossanen Naval Architects is an expert in hydrodynamics, naval architecture and design management and is fully dedicated to developing the best performing hulls for boats, ships and yachts. Peter van Oossanen (in Dutch Piet) founded our company in 1992 under the name Van Oossanen & Associates but it’s now known as Van Oossanen Naval Architects BV. Thanks to decades of experience in naval archi

tecture, hydrodynamics and marine consultancy, you can rest assured that the design of your vessel, or improvement of your existing vessel’s performance, is in expert hands. Well known is the patented Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF). With the FDHF a yacht is efficient over the entire speed range and not only in a restricted speed interval around the maximum speed. Other benefits include significantly increased comfort on board with better sea keeping and wave reduction. With the patented Fast Displacement XL® we have achieved to find new volume-length ratios for yachts. The Fast Displacement XL® is combining maximum length within a tonnage restriction, ensuring a high standard of comfort and stability on board. It’s in Van Oossanen’s mindset to continuously innovate and further optimise the performance of vessels, combining extensive in-house R&D with the use of state-of-the-art CFD software. Van Oossanen Naval Architect is a member of the Netherlands Society of Yacht Designers and Naval Architects, the NBJA (Nederlandse Bond van Jacht Architecten) and a member of the Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) trade association, the Holland Yachting Group and we play an active role on the ‘Innovation’ committee at NMT.

Congratulations to the entire Mengi Yay Yachts team on the successful launch of Amphib II, the second hull of the Virtus XP Series, at the Mengi Yay Shipyard in Tuzla.

As the naval architects for this project, Van Oossanen Naval Architects is proud to have contributed to the development of this 52+ metre custom superyacht, designed by VYD Studio. Combining a steel hull and aluminium superstructure while remaining below the 500 GT threshold, Amphib II represents a carefully engineered balance of performance, efficiency and design.

This launch marks an important milestone in the project, and we congratulate Mengi Yay Yachts , VYD Studio and all project partners on this achievement. We look forward to following Amphib II through the remaining stages of construction.

In the Spotlight: Raymond Dijkstra, Structural Engineer at Van Oossanen Naval Architects
Innovation starts with people who dare to turn ideas into reality.
Raymond joined Van Oossanen with a strong background in traditional Dutch sailing vessels, yacht construction and competitive skûtsje sailing. During his internship, he brought the concept of the Super Skou Klasse to life, an initiative designed to inspire and develop the next generation of flat bottom sailing talent.

Today, Raymond combines hands-on maritime experience with advanced engineering skills, contributing to innovative projects ranging from CFD optimised leeboards to cutting edge vessel design. His passion for innovation, craftsmanship, and preserving maritime heritage perfectly reflects the expertise and entrepreneurial spirit that drive Van Oossanen.

We are proud to have colleagues like Raymond shaping the future of naval architecture.

We are proud to share the launch of Gray Wolf, the first 52.5-metre Virtus XP53, built by at their Tuzla, Istanbul facilities.

As the flagship of the current fleet and the largest yacht ever constructed by the yard, Virtus XP53 represents a significant milestone. With naval architecture by , this explorer yacht combines a steel hull and aluminium superstructure with advanced engineering solutions to deliver both efficiency and performance. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she is expected to reach a top speed of 15 knots and cruise comfortably at 12 knots.

With sea trials about to commence and her international debut scheduled for the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, Gray Wolf marks an exciting step forward in modern yacht design and engineering.

Could this be a contender for the Design & Innovation Awards 2027? Stay tuned.

This video showcases the validation of CFD results for a displacement hull in waves, benchmarked against controlled towing tank experiments.

At Van Oossanen Naval Architects , continuous CFD validation is central to our workflow. By systematically comparing simulations with experimental data, we improve prediction reliability and confidence in our results.

Advances in CFD now enable virtual towing tank tests that closely replicate physical experiments, reducing development time and cost while maintaining high analytical quality.

In this video, we validate CFD simulation results for a displacement hull operating in waves by comparing them directly with towing tank experiments conducte...

Readiness in Motion: The NIMON Tactical Hits the Water

The lines are drawn, the camouflage is on and the mission is clear.

We are excited to see the 12m NIMON Tactical head into sea trials this week. Developed in close collaboration with , this vessel is the perfect marriage of ’s advanced hydrodynamics and rugged, real-world utility.

The Goal: Maximum agility, high-speed stability, and operational efficiency, even in the toughest conditions.

From the first CFD simulation to this week’s sea trials, it’s been a journey of engineering without compromise.

Watch this space for performance results.

Last week marked a fantastic milestone for the 66’ Luminum Yachts
project: the aluminum hull was successfully turned at . A big compliment to the team for their excellent work on
this complex, planked fast-sailing trawler yacht, featuring our fast
displacement hull form for unparalleled efficiency and performance.

We are proud to have delivered the naval architecture and construction
design for this unique vessel. It has been a true pleasure collaborating
with such a skilled and dedicated team of designers, together with the
owners, whose vision has been central to this yacht’s creation.

Moments like this highlight the impressive synergy between design, naval
architecture, engineering and construction. Our thanks go to Luminum Yachts Arnold de Ruyter and everyone
involved for their craftsmanship and commitment to quality.

On to the next milestone!
