The man who keeps the wheels turning, solves problems and loves a standing deskā€¦ and somehow still insists on supporting the Sydney Roosters. We canā€™t all be perfect. šŸ˜‰

Ryan has been a huge part of building Our Projects into what it is today. His calm approach and commitment to doing things properly are a big part of what our clients and team value every day.

Not every part of a build makes it onto socials, but this one's worth knowing about. With building performance requirements shifting ā€“ external wall framing moving from 90mm to 140mm ā€“ we planned ahead and used Firth's HotEdge slab insulation to close off the cold spot where slab meets wall. Small detail, big difference to how warm and dry the home stays.

The standout of this build, hands down. A skillion roof lifts the ceiling and floods the space with light, oak joinery runs through the kitchen, a butler's pantry sits tucked just off to the side, and a freestanding wood burner keeps things cosy through the colder Waikato months. Designed by The Architecture People as part of our Takahē plan ā€“ we brought it to life on site.

This one's a bit special to us. The Takahē build in Ngāhinapōuri was the project that brought Our Projects properly into the Waikato ā€“ Simon's part of our team, and when he and his partner Sophie decided to build, it was the perfect chance to extend south to a region we already had deep ties to. Their site came through a transferable title arrangement with Sophie's parents, who own a lifestyle block nearby ā€“ meaning the couple could put down roots close to family, on land that suited exactly what they had in mind.

Sometimes the biggest transformation comes from removing something, not adding to it.

This 1970s Titirangi home has been reimagined by opening up the space between the kitchen and living areas ā€” creating a natural flow between cooking, dining, and relaxing. What was once separated now feels connected, light-filled, and easy to live in.

Thereā€™s a sense of freedom in this kind of layout. Conversations carry, light moves through the home, and everyday moments feel more shared.

What makes this one special is how it still respects where it came from. The warmth, the textures, the subtle mid-century character ā€” all still present, just reinterpreted for modern living.

Itā€™s a reminder that thoughtful renovation isnā€™t about erasing the past, but building on it.

Great outcomes donā€™t happen in isolation.

This kitchen is a reflection of strong collaboration between client, builder, and designer ā€” each bringing their perspective to the table to create something that feels considered, functional, and refined.

Designed by Joanne Godding from Bespoke Kitchens, the space balances warm timber tones, natural stone, and subtle detailing, with features like the curved fluted island and integrated cooking zone elevating the overall feel.
Itā€™s this kind of aligned thinking and shared vision that turns a good design into a great one.

Some projects hit a little closer to homeā€¦ literally.

This recent renovation was for one of our own ā€” Director Ryan and his family. A chance to step back, rethink the space, and transform it into something truly special.

We like to think itā€™s a good reflection of what we do: thoughtful design, quality ex*****on, and spaces that feel just right to live in.

The twist? Theyā€™ve just finished itā€¦ and are already on the move to their new ā€œforever homeā€ in Fosters Bay, Huia.

Guess that means weā€™ll have to do it all over again šŸ˜‰
