37.5kW of solar. 54kWh of battery. Over 90% of a Central Hawke's Bay farm's annual power covered.

This rural install combined 23.5kW of all-black panels on a farm building roof with a 14kW ground mount, designed and built entirely by the Freenergy team. The system runs three farm homes, multiple sheds, pumping, and more.

Panels are 640W dual-glass bifacial commercial panels with a 30-year warranty, all sourced through New Zealand distributors.

Last week, Rewiring Aotearoa research confirmed what we've been seeing on the ground, that NZ has passed the solar tipping point. Installation costs have come down. Power prices have gone up. And battery storage has now crossed that line too. Add in the new rules allowing more power export back to the grid, and the case for solar is stronger than it's been in 17 years of us doing this.

NZ has officially passed the solar tipping point.

Rewiring Aotearoa research confirms that for most Kiwi homes, solar now saves more than it costs. Battery storage has crossed that line too.

The average household with solar is saving around $1,000 a year net. And from this month, lines companies are required to allow up to 10kW of power export back to the grid, up from 5kW in many areas. Solar rebates during peak times also kicked in on 1 April.

Hawke's Bay is one of the sunniest regions in the country. If you've been sitting on the fence, the numbers have just got a lot harder to ignore.

Charging our EV off excess solar. Zero grid power. Zero fuel cost.

That little button circled in orange? "PV Surplus Charging." In this mode, your car charges when your solar is producing more than your home needs. Completely free energy, going into your car instead of back to the grid. If you need to charge your car faster, simply toggle to 'Fast Charge' and additional energy will be supplied from the grid.

And because this system is bi-directional, that same car can feed power back into your home when you need it.
