At SP Advanced Materials Technology Centre (AMTC), our team is turning e-waste into a valuable resource—without relying on traditional, hazardous methods like cyanide!

Here’s a quick look at our e-waste recovery process in action:
1️⃣ XRF Analysis: Non-destructive testing to measure gold content.
2️⃣ Eco-Friendly Dissolution: Heating our patented chemical solution to selectively dissolve only the gold. (also available for silver and palladium!)
3️⃣ Filtration & Measurement: Using ICP-OES plasma technology for precise concentration analysis.

From hands-on research in sustainable materials to securing a scholarship with NUS! 🌟

Meet Moe Thet Mon (Class of 2026), one of AMTC most inspiring interns from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE). During her internship as a Research Assistant, Moe Thet Mon worked on producing lightweight, thermal-insulation plaster using sustainable materials — gaining valuable experience in lab research, industry networking, and professional communication along the way.

🌱 Sustainability isn't a solo effort. It's a holistic systems approach.

When we talk about sustainability, it's easy to focus on individual target — increasing recycling rates, reducing carbon emissions, or diverting waste from landfill. But in reality, real progress happens only when we look at the entire ecosystem (i.e. whole life cycle assessment). Waste suppliers, manufacturers, researchers, technology providers, policymakers, and end users; every stakeholder plays a role. It is such cross-disciplinary collaborative effort that truly transforms innovation into our reality.

Innovation has value. Collaboration has value. Behind every sustainable material are years of research, formulation, testing, validation, optimisation, and collaboration with various stakeholders. And when each stakeholder contributes fairly, sustainability becomes not just an aspiration—but something we can collectively achieve.

As the Centre of Innovation in Built Environment – Advanced Materials (COI BE-AM), SP AMTC is proud to bridge the gap between research and industry, helping companies to translate innovative ideas into real-world applications.

Because sustainability isn't about asking "Who should be the one paying?"
It's about asking "How can each of us contribute?"

The interns became the presenters! 🎤

What started as an internship journey ended with our AMTC interns taking the stage to share their projects, experiences, and lessons learnt with fellow TIE interns. From materials and technologies to hands-on research and testing, it was encouraging to see our interns confidently share what they have learnt and accomplished during their time with us.

A big thank you to our AMTC interns for their hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to share their journey. We are proud of your growth and contributions over the semester. 💚
