It may not look like skating season yet… but we’re getting there!

With fall right around the corner, outdoor skating season is closer than it feels. Our team is making steady progress on the rink floor in Joplin, Missouri, laying the groundwork for what will soon be a place for skaters to hit the ice.

A little more construction now. A lot more skating soon!

Last week, we wrapped up the summer by celebrating our two interns with a little happy hour and a well-deserved sendoff!

We’re incredibly thankful for all the hard work, dedication, and willingness to learn they brought to Modern Mechanical this summer. It’s been great having them on the team and watching them jump in, take on new challenges, and grow along the way.

We’ll definitely miss having them around, but we’re excited to see what’s next for both of them. Best of luck Brody and Donovan heading back to school and starting the new semester!

Concrete pours have come a long way!

The first photo? The 1960s. The second? 2026.

Same goal: build a rink that stands the test of time.
Very different ways of getting there.

From the equipment and methods of the past to the modern systems, tools, and technology we use today, it’s safe to say the industry has evolved quite a bit. We’re proud to keep pushing that evolution forward at Modern Mechanical.

Shoutout to our partners at Double J Concrete for putting the modern-day version into action. We’ll let them handle the concrete — we’ll just keep making sure the ice underneath it is ready to do its job!

Big things are taking shape in Huntsville!

The new ice system installation at the Von Braun Center has really taken shape, and we’re excited to see our work come to life on the floor!

From the engineering and custom equipment to the installation taking place now, there’s a lot that goes into building an ice system that performs at this level. And now, we can show off the progress firsthand.

We’re proud to be part of this project and even more excited for what’s ahead!

Appreciate Husky Productions capturing this one!

This time-lapse gives a quick look at our concrete pour at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, MN—but there’s a lot more behind it than what you see here. What took hours of coordination, precision, and teamwork plays out in just seconds.

This is just the first glimpse of the work we’ve been doing in St. Cloud, and we’re looking forward to sharing more as the project comes together!

Little throwback to getting this beast on the move!

Here is some of the drone footage from when this outdoor ammonia chiller was loaded up for Choate—and let’s just say, it took some serious coordination, a lot of muscle, and maybe a few deep breaths along the way.

It’s already on site and making progress, but this was a moment worth looking back on.

Early momentum in Huntsville!

Not long ago, we shipped out one of our custom chiller systems—now it’s on site and we’re turning our attention to the floor. The crew is already making strides, laying the groundwork for what will soon be a high-performance sheet of ice.

It may look like the early stages now, but this is where the transformation begins. Plenty more to come as this project keeps taking shape!

Big milestone at Choate today — the concrete floor is officially poured!

A lot of planning, prep, and precision goes into a day like this, and it’s great to see it all come together. Huge credit to the crew on site for executing and keeping things moving.
