Prein&Newhof

Prein&Newhof For over 55 years, Prein&Newhof has been meeting infrastructure needs for township, municipal, and private clients across Michigan.

We offer a range of engineering, environmental consulting, surveying, GIS, landscape architecture, and laboratory services. Engineering fees only account for about 10% of every project, but it’s often the most important 10% you spend. At Prein&Newhof, we believe that better planning means better projects, and better projects mean a better, stronger, more efficient infrastructure. In every area, we

’ll help you see the big picture, plan ahead, and find creative, long-term solutions. We do water, wastewater, stormwater, roads, airports, non-motorized trails, structural engineering, site design, site surveying, permits, mapping, and lab testing.

The City of Hart’s BioPure Facility plays an important role in supporting both the community and the local food processing industry. Over the past several years, the City has made a major investment in the facility to improve reliability and increase treatment capacity to better handle the uniquely strong wastewater generated by local food processors. The completed improvements help position Hart’s wastewater system to continue serving the community and supporting economic development well into the future.

Take a closer look at the full BioPure project and the improvements happening behind the scenes to keep this essential system working for Hart!

Summer internships give students a chance to build real-world experience while getting a clearer picture of where their careers might take them. We’re grateful to all of our interns for the energy and hard work they brought to P&N this summer!

In our latest blog, Jackie Steinbruch, SHRM-CP, PHR, shares what makes Prein&Newhof’s summer internship program meaningful, along with reflections from Construction Observation Intern David Clark on how field experience has helped shape his understanding of civil engineering and the communities it serves.

By Jackie Steinbruch, SHRM-CP, PHR Each summer, Prein&Newhof welcomes a new group of interns into our offices and project teams. For students, an internship is a chance to take what they have learned in the classroom and see how it applies to real projects. For us, it is an opportunity to introduce....

Congratulations to the City of Hart on two exciting milestones for the community! Last week, Hart celebrated ribbon cuttings for the completed BioPure Facility and the new Hart Plaza.

The BioPure improvements strengthen the City’s wastewater treatment system, increasing capacity and reliability while supporting the local food processing industry and the economic development it provides. The Hart Plaza project has transformed 36,000 square feet of downtown public space into a welcoming destination for community events and everyday enjoyment. While very different projects, both represent significant investments in Hart’s future and reflect the City’s continued commitment to strengthening its infrastructure while creating new opportunities for the community to grow and thrive.

We’re grateful to have partnered with the City of Hart on both projects and enjoyed celebrating alongside the many people who helped bring them to life. Special thanks to these project partners and many more: Wadel Stabilization, Mika Meyers PLC, Baker Tilly, West Michigan Shoreline Regional Development Commission (WMSRDC), Michigan Economic Development Corporation - MEDC MiPlace, Hart Rotary Club

Third places, or the places we spend time outside of home and work, can play an important role in building community. Parks, plazas, trails, and other shared spaces give people opportunities to connect and feel a stronger sense of belonging.

In our latest blog, Landscape Architect Collin Manns, PLA, reflects on the parks that shaped his childhood, influenced his career, and now hold new meaning as he experiences them with his own family. He also explores how thoughtful design can help create welcoming public spaces where people feel comfortable spending time together.

Learn more about the value of third places and Collin's perspective on our blog: https://www.preinnewhof.com/third-places-why-parks-and-public-spaces-matter/

🌳

By Collin Manns, PLA Parks have always had an impact on my life. As far back as I can remember, they have been the setting for some of my earliest memories. I can remember climbing on the playground, rolling through the dirt, and then racing my parents back to the car. I loved going to […]

Kalamazoo Public Schools recently celebrated the opening of its new Chime Street District Kitchen with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house! The new facility will support the preparation of more than 2.5 million meals each year, giving the KPS Food Service team additional space and resources to offer students fresher, made-from-scratch options. Expanded preparation areas and increased cold-storage capacity will also help the district operate more efficiently while reducing food waste.

The 17,000-square-foot facility was designed by TowerPinkster and brings food preparation and distribution together on a site engineered to support the district’s daily operations and long-term needs. Prein&Newhof was proud to provide site design and engineering services for this important investment in student well-being.

Congratulations to TowerPinkster, Kalamazoo Public Schools, and all the project partners who helped bring the new District Kitchen to life!
