Do you know what a Public Adjuster is?

A Public Adjuster in Florida is a licensed and bonded insurance professional that will help Policyholders following an insured loss.

The more complicated an insurance claim is, the more valuable their assistance may become.

Florida Statute Sec. 626.854 defines Public Adjusters as those who – in exchange for payment – assist insured homeowners in “negotiating for or effecting the settlement of a claim or claims for loss or damage covered by an insurance contract.”

Public Adjusters must be licensed by the Florida Department of Financial Services and adhere to a strict code of ethics. The public adjusters are independent and do not work for or represent your insurance company. That is why you need to know how to protect your Property & Family before and after the disaster happens.

1. PROPERTY INSURANCE: Make sure you have adequate property insurance to cover hurricane damage. Review your policy to understand what is included and consider adding additional coverages if necessary.

2. PREVENTIVE INSPECTION: A thorough inspection of the property is ESSENTIAL. Check the roof, windows, doors and any vulnerable areas. Detecting and repairing possible weaknesses NOW can prevent further damage later.

3. STRENGTHEN YOUR HOME: By installing reinforcements on the roof, windows and doors. Also consider installing shutters or protective panels to protect your windows from flying debris.

4. CLEANUP & MAINTENANCE: Keep your property clean and free of loose objects that could become projectiles during a hurricane. Make sure to trim trees and cut back branches that may pose a hazard.

5. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: Create a detailed emergency plan with your family and make sure everyone is familiar with it. Make sure you have basic supplies.
