Throwback Thursday 📐

From pencils and drafting tables to digital models and advanced building systems, engineering has come a long way.

This historic photo captures a moment from an earlier era at Wick Fisher White, when every line was drawn by hand, and every project took shape on paper.

We're grateful for the generations of employees whose dedication helped shape Wick Fisher White into the firm it is today.

We're pleased to welcome Matt Bean to the Wick Fisher White team as Intern and Junior Designer.

Having recently completed his sophomore year studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, Matt joins us eager to gain hands-on experience and see how engineering concepts learned in the classroom are applied to real-world projects.

He looks forward to developing technical skills, learning from experienced professionals, and gaining exposure to both office and field aspects of engineering.

We look forward to supporting his growth as he continues his engineering journey.

qWICK TIP: Safe Commissioning Protects Your Investment. ⚡

Our Electrical Safety Month qWICK Tip series concludes with a focus on commissioning, field testing, and startup coordination.

Commissioning is critical to validating system performance, but energized testing activities can introduce risk if not approached methodically. Alignment with NFPA 70E, coordinated procedures, and clear communication among project teams help support safer testing, startup, and long-term system operation.

See this week’s graphic for key questions teams should be asking about commissioning procedures, testing coordination, and electrical safety practices.

As Historic Preservation Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the buildings and spaces that continue to shape Philadelphia’s historic identity.

With Wick Fisher White marking 125 years in Philadelphia and the city celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, it is especially meaningful to see historic landmarks preserved and adapted for future generations through restoration, renovation, and adaptive reuse.

Over the years, we’ve been grateful for the opportunity to contribute to projects at the Pennsylvania Hospital, the Betsy Ross House, The Bourse Building, the Public Ledger Building, and Old Saint Joseph’s Church — spaces that continue to connect Philadelphia’s past with its future.

qWICK TIP: Reliable Power = Safe Operations. ⚡

Our Electrical Safety qWICK Tip series continues with a focus on backup power reliability and operational resilience.

As buildings change, electrical loads and critical systems often outgrow original infrastructure assumptions. While NFPA 110 establishes minimum requirements for emergency power systems, operational demands and uptime expectations may require additional evaluation and planning.

See this week’s graphic for key questions teams should be asking about backup power capacity, redundancy, and system reliability.

Electrical Safety Month qWICK TIP #2 ⚡

Keep your arc flash study current as system conditions change.

Electrical system modifications, load changes, and equipment replacements can impact incident energy levels and protection schemes. Maintaining compliance with NFPA 70E and reviewing studies at least every five years — or whenever system changes occur — helps support safer operation and personnel protection.

See this week’s graphic for key questions teams should be asking about arc flash compliance and system safety.
