NC State Paper Science

Once in a while, we are able to welcome our alumni back for reunions. Recently, the Class of 1986 met in town to watch a football game, gather for a meal and tour Biltmore and our newly installed patio space. Our interns, Sara Gregory and Abigail Hickman joined faculty attending the tailgate party.

"I had such a great time, despite the rain! I feel like we are truly blessed to be at State when we were and with each other. See you all in two years."--Galen Butler

We are thankful for such supportive alumni!

Our career fair was a smashing success last week, bringing nearly 40 companies with multiple openings for internships, co-ops and full time employment for our seniors.

Thanks to Smurfit Westrock and Kemira for their sponsorships and to all alumni for showing just how valuable the fair was as they rep their companies. Hats off to Brittany Hayes for another successful event and ongoing interview season!

Our FYEs (First Year Engineers) were treated to the annual FYE retreat this weekend, visiting Domtar's mill. A platinum member of the NC State Pulp and Paper Advisory Board, the company regularly hosts our student tours and really rolled out the red carpet for them. About 10 Domtar employees took time on a weekend to give our students a tour, introducing them to a paper mill and all it's internal workings--lighting a fire of interest from all attending. Students stayed overnight at a 4H center, got to know their new classmates better and competed in a presentation contest about paper-making that really wow'ed upperclassmen and staff for the knowledge they attained on the tour.

Wednesday is our Paper Industry Career Fair and interviews are already underway, nearly 100% of students will have an internship offer for next summer before Oct. 1. PSE is supported in part by the NC State Pulp and Paper Advisory Board and its corporate members, permitting scholarship funding for many of our students to the tune of $475K this year alone!

We can't wait to see where this class of students is able to go!
