“Kaizen” is the Japanese word for a philosophy of “improvement” that pervades through both professional and personal life. For Yasda’s business, this does not just mean aiming to create the best, most accurate machining centers. It also means making the “behind the scenes” more comfortable for Yasda members and our partners.

Our new conference room furniture, supplied by Rieke Interiors, not only looks nice, but also provides a comfortable and convenient set up for internal and external meetings.

Yasda’s endless pursuit of perfection in precision and technology goes beyond the development, manufacturing, and measurement processes. The most important and most well-known facet of our kodawari is craftsmanship. From post machining handling to stress testing, this is embodied by the human touch we put into our machines via hand scraping.

When new factory employees begin at our Japanese HQ, one of the first things they learn is hand scraping. The process involves meticulous positioning and movement in technique as well as repeated scraping to smooth the surfaces for ideal accuracy and machine operation. It takes a year or more of constant practice for the standard of quality that Yasda strives for in this skill to be mastered.

A few weeks back, we posted about Yasda’s omotenashi (white glove service) for starting and continuing business with our users. Part of that is the maintenance and presentation of our sample kit, which every very branch has and shares with its respective distributors. As proof of our quality and precision, all pieces are made utilizing different machining centers.

The YBM 7Ti 5-axis vertical machining center, currently featured in the newly renovated Methods Machine Tools Acton showroom, is ideal for aerospace, defense, and other industries requiring large workpiece manufacturing.

Last week, we had the honor of attending the unveiling for the new showroom of Methods Machine Tools, Inc. in Action, Massachusetts. Five of our machining centers were on display, and we were elated to have everyone in attendance get the chance to see them.

Similarly to our factory, this showroom is temperature controlled to +/-.5° Celcius. This makes it an optimal environment for performing sample piece creation as well as showing off what our machines can really do. So, any who come to the showroom in the future can see Yasda’s quality and precision in sub-micron accuracy at work!

As Audry Hepburn said, “To plant a garden is to dream of tomorrow.” To show our shared hopes for continued growth in the future, we sent a handcrafted bouquet created by Westford Florist for the occasion. We would like to extend our thanks to Methods for allowing us to be present for another moment of growth. And we look forward to many more years of partnership.

How does Yasda measure the success of our machining centers? By measuring their components. This, in turn, makes our machines produce the standards of quality and accuracy that we are known for.

In post-production of our components, we measure each one to a sub-micrometer level using ultra-precise equipment in our dedicated measuring room. This is our kodawari for measurement, imbued into our machining centers, that allows them to being higher quality and precision to our users’ manufacturing processes. So, our small-scale measuring can bring large-scale success and ROI to customers.

As Grace Murry Harper famously said, “One accurate measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions.” Thus, customers can rest assured thanks to Yasda’s kodawari (and omotenashi) for precise measuring and proven expertise that comes with our machining centers.

Last week, we conducted our first training class at the newly opened Methods Center of Excellence in Gilberts, IL!

Focused on the PX30i 5-axis vertical machining center, we brought service engineers from Methods Machine Tools, Inc.Methods Machine Tools, Inc. up-to-date on how to service it. We are always heartened to help them keep up their knowledge for our machines. We are a team after all, and team members support each other every step of the way towards their goals.

Such preparedness is also part of our omotenashi for user and distributor. With the Methods service engineers prepared, the customer can rest assured that the quality of their finished goods and ROI is protected. Thus, both Methods and Yasda can bolster customer success together.

In the aerospace industry, quality finished goods and ROI in large workpiece manufacturing require 1–2 micron meter-level precision with high degrees of repeatability in accuracy. Seamless automation, and the ability to handle hard, heavy material are also paramount to creating components that ensure safe travel.
