Have your say on proposed ACCU Scheme amendments. The Australian Government is proposing changes to the ACCU Scheme legislation that would:

🔹Recognise registered native title claimants as eligible interest holders and requiring up-front and staged consent for projects on land that is recognised as native title land, or subject to native title claims
🔹Establish the new Carbon Abatement Integrity Committee (CAIC)
🔹Clarify governance for proponent-led method development
🔹Create new Ministerial powers to manage critical integrity risks
🔹Enhance the Clean Energy Regulator’s compliance and publication powers
🔹Improve transparency within the NGER Scheme
🔹Encourage greater investment and participation in R&D into emissions reduction opportunities.

Changes to the Cheaper Home Batteries Program commenced on 1 May 2026 with the STC calculation applying different rates depending on the usable capacity of the battery system.

🔹 0-14 kWh: STC Factor applied at 100%
🔹>14-28 kWh: STC Factor applied at 60%
🔹>28-50 kWh: STC Factor applied at 15%

The STC Factor determines the number of STCs a system is entitled to create per kWh of usable capacity.
It's now at 6.8, and will keep declining every 6 months.

⚠️ Reminder: NSW commercial lighting formula ending soon

The Commercial Lighting Energy Savings Formula under the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) will end on 31 March 2026.

Lighting upgrades using this calculation method must be implemented and submitted before this date to remain eligible to create ESCs.

After 31 March, commercial lighting upgrades will no longer be able to generate ESCs using this calculation method, meaning projects currently planned under this pathway should be finalised as soon as possible.

If you have projects in the pipeline, now is the time to complete installations and ensure documentation is ready for submission.

Our team is available to support partners with project eligibility and compliance requirements.

BATTERY RETAILERS AND INSTALLERS: As part of our planned transition to new product specifications for batteries, we have recently bought forward the expiry date for more than 700 battery and inverter models on the approved products lists to 31 December 2027.

It’s important to check the expiry date for your battery and inverter models to help you manage your stock. Once products expire from the approved product lists, they are no longer eligible for installation under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), or some other government programs and network requirements.

Check which battery and inverters we've updated at https://cleanenergycouncil.org.au/industry-programs/products-program/batteries/new-expiry-dates-batteries-ts5398
