Concrete tunnels are designed to serve for 100+ years. The waterproofing systems protecting them rarely last as long.

Xypex Crystalline Technology works inside the concrete, self-healing cracks up to 0.5 mm, and eliminating the membrane layers that slow down construction and fail over time.

Trusted on tunnel projects in over 100 countries. NATM, TBM, Cut & Cover, and Immersed Tube.

Hydrogen sulfide. Acid-producing bacteria. Aggressive chemicals.

The concrete at Saint-Isidore's new wastewater treatment plant faces it all.

The municipality upgraded its facility with a new degritter building, treatment pond, and pumping station. Xypex Bio-San was specified across all 580 m³ of concrete to protect against microbial-induced corrosion and chemical attack from within. 🦠

🏆 The BNR UV Improvements project in Wichita, Kansas just won the Grand Prize in the Xypex Canada & USA Project Showcase Awards!

This wastewater treatment facility upgrades required concrete that could stand up to continuous moisture and aggressive chemical environments. Xypex Admix C-500 NF was specified to enhance durability from within the concrete matrix, with Xypex Concentrate applied to designated walls for added protection.

The result: permanent resistance to water pe*******on across the entire structure, built to last the life of the facility.

Congratulations to the project team on this well-deserved recognition!

As 3D-printed concrete moves beyond pavilions and prototypes into infrastructure applications, durability becomes non-negotiable.

Exposure to moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and aggressive environments demand more than surface protection.

Integral crystalline technology delivers:
✅ Reduced permeability under hydrostatic pressure
✅ Enhanced resistance to water and chemical ingress
✅ Long-term performance aligned with infrastructure service life

Xypex Crystalline Technology helps bridge the gap between innovation and durability, supporting confidence in 3D-printed infrastructure.

🏆 Xypex International Best Project Award Spotlight | Best Infrastructure Winner

Operating in one of the most aggressive coastal environments, this industrial rehabilitation project required long-term protection against harsh marine exposure. Xypex crystalline waterproofing technology was selected to enhance durability across a large treated surface area, ensuring the structure's performance for decades to come.

Every wastewater structure will be exposed to moisture and chemicals. The difference is whether deterioration is expected or prevented.

Surface systems assume future failure and maintenance. Integral systems assume long-term performance.

Xypex Crystalline admixture technology provides:
🔺Permanent waterproofing within the concrete
🔺Self-healing of microcracks
🔺Protection that cannot delaminate or peel

In high-risk IWWT facilities, designing for longevity isn’t optional, it’s responsible engineering.

Large midstream concrete structures are in unforgiving environments.
Chemical exposure, constant moisture, and structural movement push coatings and membranes to their limits.

Common failure modes include:
• Debonding and blistering
• Punctures and seam failures
• Difficult inspections and repairs
• Escalating lifecycle costs

That’s why many engineers are moving away from surface-dependent systems and toward integral crystalline waterproofing:
✅ No film to tear, blister, or delaminate
✅ Protection remains active for the life of the concrete
✅ Self-healing of microcracks when water is present

When repair costs are high and access is limited, performance inside the concrete matters more than coatings on the surface.

05/27/2026

Shrinkage, thermal movement, and settlement are inevitable in large concrete structures, especially in coastal and marine environments.

In desalination facilities, even hairline cracks can become corrosion accelerators.

Crystalline technology addresses this risk at the source:
✅ Self-healing of micro-cracks in the presence of moisture
✅ Ongoing protection without human intervention
✅ Reduced leakage and lower maintenance demands

Instead of chasing cracks after construction, Xypex Crystalline Technology works continuously to support long-term watertight performance in mission-critical water infrastructure.
