For patients with suspected acute leukemia, getting answers faster can make a difference.

Rapid next-generation sequencing (NGS) analyzes the cancer's DNA to identify genetic changes that can help inform personalized treatment decisions.

Dr. Valentina Nardi of Mass General Brigham says clinicians can test patients with suspected acute leukemia while they are still in the emergency department. By the time they reach the inpatient floor, they may already have genetic results.

“To be able to start treatment sooner, to understand what the disease is sooner also means that patients can leave the hospital sooner,” adds Dr. Amir Fathi of Massachusetts General Hospital.

We recently welcomed the Cellerator team to our Oslo site for two days of scientific exchange, hands-on learning and discussions focused on the future of cell therapy.

By bringing together Cellerator's mission to accelerate the development and manufacturing of cell therapies for clinical trials with Thermo Fisher's expertise in technologies and solutions that support this journey, the visit created opportunities to explore both the challenges and opportunities involved in advancing new therapies.

Drawing on expertise from both organizations, discussions focused on workforce development, process optimization and integrated approaches to cell therapy development and manufacturing that can help support the translation of promising cell therapies from research to clinical application.

Both Cellerator and Thermo Fisher recognize the important role collaboration plays in advancing innovation and expanding access to emerging therapies. Throughout the visit, scientists, engineers and technical experts shared knowledge, discussed industry challenges and explored ways to help strengthen the broader cell therapy ecosystem.

Your DNA tells you what could happen. Your proteins show what's happening right now.

For years, precision medicine has been driven by genomics. In a new perspective, Thermo Fisher's Iain Mylchreest explains why he believes proteomics is reaching a turning point.

Proteins provide a real-time view of what's happening inside the body, offering insights that DNA alone can't provide. Until recently, studying them at the scale needed for precision medicine wasn't possible. Today, advances in mass spectrometry and other technologies are enabling researchers to analyze proteins faster, more deeply and across larger populations than ever before.

For Iain, this marks a shift. By combining proteomics with genomics, researchers can build a more complete picture of human biology, bringing precision medicine closer to helping more patients receive care tailored to their unique biology.

We were honored to welcome Her Excellency Mina Noor, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Czech Republic, and representatives of the Dutch Embassy to our site in Brno. The visit highlighted the strong collaboration between our Brno and Eindhoven teams and the important role international partnerships play in advancing science and technology.

During the visit, we showcased how our Brno colleagues design and manufacture advanced electron microscopy technologies that help researchers, manufacturers and innovators around the world tackle complex challenges — from developing new materials and semiconductors to advancing life sciences and improving quality in manufacturing.

A memorable highlight was a live electron microscopy demonstration, featuring a personalized engraving on a Czech coin that could only be seen under an electron microscope, illustrating the remarkable precision of the technology.

We are proud of the expertise and dedication of our colleagues in Brno. Every instrument they design and build helps our customers advance scientific discovery, develop new technologies and solve challenges that make a difference in people's lives.

New Approach Methodologies, or NAMs, are human-relevant, non-animal approaches that are helping reshape how science evaluates safety and efficacy earlier in drug development.

3 things to know:

1. They can help change how drug development starts. New Approach Methodologies use tools like cell-based models, in chemico assays and computational modeling to help evaluate safety and efficacy earlier in development.

2. Momentum is growing. In 2025, the FDA and other regulatory bodies signaled stronger support for NAMs, including guidance that encourages developers to include NAM-derived data and a broader push to phase out animal testing for some programs.

3. They depend on rigorous science. Organoids, tumoroids and advanced analytical tools can help generate data that is more human-relevant, and Thermo Fisher is helping customers build and validate the workflows behind that shift.

NAMs are not a short-term trend. They are part of a multi-year transformation toward more human-relevant research, with the potential to improve safety, reduce cost and help bring new therapies forward sooner.
