FAQ: How do I know if I need gas boiler maintenance or a full repair?

If your boiler is still working but seems less efficient or inconsistent, gas boiler maintenance may be enough. If the boiler won’t start, makes loud noises, or shows error codes, a gas boiler repair is more likely needed. We can advise after inspection.

What does a Gas Boiler Service include?

This can vary depending on the appliance type and age, but an older standard boiler would include the following...

✅A visual check to ensure your boiler, flue and any ventilation requirements still meet current standards
✅Boiler fired to identify any working faults
✅Boiler casing removed to check all main boiler components (burner, heat exchanger, main injector, spark/sensor probe).
✅Checks to ensure flue terminals are unobstructed and internal flue components are sealed properly
✅Inside casing surfaces cleaned
✅Main heat exchanger and boiler parts cleaned (not always necessary on condensing boilers)
✅Boiler casing seals inspected for integrity to ensure for adequate sealing
✅Gas working pressure test conducted to ensure that adequate gas is supplied to the appliance
✅Combustion readings checked and gas valve adjusted, if necessary, to ensure the burner is combusting efficiently and properly (normally using a flue gas analyser).

Any parts needed, such as new gaskets are not included in the cost of the service.

Our engineers carry a vast array of boiler spares required for servicing, but occasionally replacement parts have to be ordered.

How would you like £9000 towards an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)?

The government has recently announced an increase in the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant for properties heated by oil or LPG.

From 21st July, the existing £7500 BUS grant will be increased to £9000 for off gas grid properties that are not connected to mains gas, are not a new build and not connected to a heat network.

The grant will only be for applicable for installing air to water and ground source heat pumps.
