Progress continues across the BAQUS Les Ozouets project, with key works advancing across the main building, construction building, PAC building and wider external areas.

Within the main building, fire protection boarding is ongoing across the ground, first and second floors, alongside continued SFS installation, external boarding, sealing works and the installation of parapet framing to the level 3 roof. Window installation and glazing have also progressed on the north elevation, while the final roof coating to level 3 is now approximately 90% complete.

Additional progress includes preparation works to the second-floor dwarf wall, fire stopping sample walls being erected, and the first sections of external supports for cladding now being installed.

Across the wider site, scaffolding, fall arrest, mezzanine deck works, Sika waterproofing, retaining walls, roadway preparation and motorcycle bay works are all progressing, supporting the continued delivery of this important education and community-focused development.

BAQUS is proud to celebrate the successful completion of the new 50-seat MediCinema facility at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

This is a truly special healthcare project, designed to bring the magic of cinema directly to children in hospital, giving young patients and their families a welcome escape, comfort and moments of joy during challenging times.

The completion of this dedicated space reflects what can be achieved when technical expertise, collaboration and purpose-driven delivery come together. Every detail has been carefully considered to create an environment that is both functional and uplifting for patients, families and staff.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life, including Equans and MarconConstruction. Your commitment, care and collaboration have helped deliver a facility that will have a lasting positive impact within the hospital community.

This milestone is a powerful reminder that healthcare construction is not only about buildings, but about creating spaces that support wellbeing, dignity and moments of normality when they matter most.

This month, the London Festival of Architecture returns with the theme of “Belonging”, bringing more than 400 events across the capital and encouraging the built environment sector to ask a vital question: who are our buildings and spaces designed for?

Inclusive, sustainable and successful builds depend on early collaboration between clients, consultants, designers, contractors and communities. When project teams consider access, heritage, long-term use, safety, cost certainty and environmental performance from the outset, buildings are more likely to serve the people and communities they are created for.

Today is World Environment Day, and in the construction and property sector, it's a moment that deserves more than a pause for reflection.

The built environment accounts for around 40% of global carbon emissions. That's a number our industry cannot ignore, and one that places a genuine responsibility on every consultant, contractor, and client involved in shaping the places we live, work, and receive care in.

At BAQUS, sustainability isn't a box to tick on a project checklist. It sits at the heart of how we advise our clients, from early-stage cost planning that accounts for whole-life value, to procurement decisions that consider environmental impact alongside programme and budget. We know the industry still has a long way to go. But every project is an opportunity to make better decisions, and we take that seriously.

Happy World Environment Day. Let's keep building better.

The latest update from Les Ozouets Campus shows a project that is firmly in its stride. One key milestone worth calling out this week is the completion of lightning protection on the PAC Building, with certification now issued.

Sign-off and certification on a system like that is a meaningful step in the journey toward a building being ready for occupation.

On the main building, windows are now being installed across levels 1 and 2 on the North Elevation, with reveals in place from ground to level 2. External boarding and sealing is ongoing across all floors, the final roof coating continues at level 3, and fire stopping sample walls are being erected. Concrete plinths for plant equipment are in, and the parapet frame installation at level 3 continues.

In the Construction Building, the level 1 mezzanine deck is complete with roof level works ongoing, concrete pours are progressing to dwarf walls and the first section of level 1, and rebar installation is advancing across the remainder of the floor plate. Sika waterproofing continues at lower level perimeter.

Externally, retaining walls to both the east and west sides of the Construction Building are being prepared for shuttering and pour, with sprinkler sub-base and roadway works continuing across the site.

Another solid week at a project that is building real momentum toward completion. BAQUS continues in its role as NEC Supervisor for the State of Guernsey.

A robust golden thread (the single source of safety and design information) is essential for compliance, auditability and long-term asset value. Clear records protect people, projects and performance.

Well done to all involved!

Windows are now being installed to level 1 of the main building at Les Ozouets Campus, with reveals in place from ground to level 2. External boarding is being sealed across all floors, the final roof coating continues at level 3, and parapet wall detailing is progressing. The weathertight milestone is firmly in sight.

Inside, blockwork walls are rising to the kitchen and plant areas, fire protection and intumescent paintwork continue throughout, and the dwarf wall on the second floor is being prepared for its next concrete pour.

Over in the Construction Building, the mezzanine deck installation to level 1 is complete, with works now progressing at roof level. Stud welding is done, rebar is being laid across level 1, and the first concrete pour to the lower-level walkway is in. The next pour is already scheduled, keeping the programme firmly on track.

On site, final concrete pours to bases are complete, the retaining wall to the west side of the Construction Building is progressing pour by pour, and sprinkler sub-base and roadway works continue.

Strong, sustained progress across every front. As NEC Supervisor for the State of Guernsey, BAQUS remains closely engaged, and this project is shaping up to be something the island can be proud of!

The UK construction sector continues to face a significant skills gap, with tens of thousands of new workers needed across trades and technical roles in the coming decade. This shortage is compounded by an ageing workforce, fewer apprentices completing training, and extensive demand for digital and green skills.

📍Government and industry are responding through major initiatives:
• New skills hubs are being launched to deliver fast-track apprenticeships across key trades including bricklaying, carpentry and electrics.
• A £600m training investment aims to train 60,000 additional workers by 2029, with new apprenticeships, bootcamps, and expanded college courses.
• Employer-led training and CITB support help SMEs attract and retain apprentices via expanded support and funded placements.

📍What does this mean for the industry?
• Apprenticeships and vocational pathways remain central to workforce growth.
• Collaboration between government, training bodies and employers is vital.
• Upskilling existing teams, promoting diversity, and widening entry routes are all part of a long-term solution.

At BAQUS, we recognise that robust workforce planning underpins project success and industry resilience, and we’re committed to supporting clients and partners navigating these labour market realities.
