Good luck to our colleague Pierre, who is taking on one of the world's toughest amateur cycling challenges tomorrow – L'Étape du Tour de France.

This iconic event gives amateur cyclists the opportunity to tackle an official mountain stage of the Tour de France on closed roads. This year's route is an incredible 170km with over 5,400m of climbing through the French Alps, including four major mountain ascents.

Architectural Assistant (Part 2)

We are looking for a motivated and talented Part 2 Architectural Assistant to join our growing team
and contribute to a diverse range of exciting projects.

The Role

Working alongside our architects and senior team members, you will be involved in all stages of the
design and delivery process, including:
• Assisting with the development of design proposals from concept through to completion.
• Carrying out site surveys and preparing drawings and documentation.
• Producing planning and Building Control submissions.
• Assisting with tender packages and contract administration.
• Supporting the management of pre-construction Health & Safety in accordance with CDM
Regulations.
• Attending client, consultant and project meetings, and assisting in the preparation of reports
and presentations.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:
• A Part 2 qualification in Architecture.
• Excellent design, communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop.
• A proactive attitude, strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a
team.
Experience with additional BIM or visualisation software would be advantageous but is not essential.

A New Chapter for McGurk Architects
We're pleased to share a new chapter for McGurk Architects Ltd. In May 2026, Fergal Rainey and Michael McCormick joined Edelle Dodds as Company Directors, following a successful management buyout of the practice.

This represents a natural progression of the leadership that has been developed from within the practice, ensuring continuity for our clients and team while providing a strong foundation for the future.

Since Colm McGurk founded the practice in 1995, McGurk Architects has built a reputation for thoughtful design, technical expertise and trusted client relationships. Under our new ownership, those values remain unchanged as we continue to invest in our people, our practice, and the clients and communities we serve.

We extend our sincere thanks to Sinead McGurk for the support she has given to the business over recent years, particularly following Colm's passing in 2022. We wish her every success in her future endeavours and in the continued growth of her other business interests.

McGurk Architects are delighted to have been appointed as Architects for a new extension project at St Patrick’s Primary School, Saul.

It is an exciting and busy time for our Education Team, with construction also due to commence shortly on three further Education Authority projects — two primary school developments in Derry and a high school project in Limavady.

We look forward to working closely with the Education Authority, school staff and wider project teams to deliver high-quality learning environments that support pupils, staff and local communities for years to come.

We are pleased to welcome two new members to the team at McGurk Architects.

Pierre Devlin joined us six weeks ago and brings over 10 years’ experience as an Architect, with a particular specialism in residential design. Having recently relocated to Magherafelt, Pierre is already settling in well—if you see him out and about locally, please do say hello.

We are also delighted to welcome Charlene McGuckin, who has joined the practice this week as an Administrative Assistant. Charlene will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the studio.

We wish both Pierre and Charlene every success in their roles and look forward to the contribution they will make to the continued growth of the practice.
